1. Cytokines and their soluble receptors in nasal fluids from school children with allergic rhinitis
Sammanfattning : Allergic inflammation is associated with a shift in the balance between cytokines produced by two T helper subsets (Th1 and Th2) towards a preponderance of Th2 cells. Interleukin (IL)-4 is produced by Th2 cells and interferon-g (IFN-g) by Th1 cells. The ratio IL-4/IFN-g is often used as a marker of the balance between the cytokines. LÄS MER
2. Creating new ventures : A longitudinal investigation of the nascent venturing process
Sammanfattning : This study contributes, empirically, theoretically and methodologically, to entrepreneurship research, theory, and practice. I provide answers to three major questions regarding venture opportunity variation, variation in the nascent venturing process, and outcomes from this process. LÄS MER
3. Bioinformatic identification of disease associated pathways by network based analysis
Sammanfattning : Many common diseases are complex, meaning that they are caused by many interacting genes. This makes them difficult to study; to determine disease mechanisms, disease-associated genes must be analyzed in combination. LÄS MER
4. Identification of genes and regulators that are shared across T cell associated diseases
Sammanfattning : Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of hundreds of diseases and millions of patients have led to the identification of genes that are associated with more than one disease. The aims of this PhD thesis were to a) identify a group of genes important in multiple diseases (shared disease genes), b) identify shared up-stream disease regulators, and c) determine how the same genes can be involved in the pathogenesis of different diseases. 5. Dynamic regulation of DNA methylation in human T-cell biology
Sammanfattning : T helper cells play a central role in orchestrating immune responses in humans. Upon encountering a foreign antigen, T helper cells are activated followed by a differentiation process where the cells are specialised to help combating the infection. LÄS MER
