21. Hand-arm vibration syndrome; Consequences for hand function and quality of life
Sammanfattning : Workers exposed to hand-held vibrating machines may risk developing a hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), a condition which can cause chronic impairment and disability. The aims of this thesis were 1) to obtain deeper insight and further knowledge of HAVS and the consequences for hand function, and aspects of quality of life (QoL); 2) to investigate the usefulness of clinical assessments in diagnosing HAVS; 3) to evaluate a treatment method for patients with severe cold intolerance. 22. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis – A Study in Transgenic Mice
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease with an incidence of 1.5-2.7/100000 people/year. Today there is no cure for the disease and only symptomatic treatments are available. LÄS MER
23. Wearable systems and sensors for the assessment of motor control : Development and validation of methods for clinical assessment of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus
Sammanfattning : Human gait and balance are controlled by automatic processes in the central nervous system, and in sensory and proprioceptive systems. If a disturbance occurs in any of these complex structures, it may lead to balance and gait problems. LÄS MER
24. Cell and Gene Therapy for Parkinson's Disease: Therapeutic Effect and Modulation of Dyskinesias in the 6-OHDA Rat Model
Sammanfattning : The main pathological feature in Parkinson's disease is the progressive loss of dopamine neurons in the midbrain, which in turn leads to the appearance of motor deficits such as akinesia/bradykinesia (loss/slowness of movements), rigidity, postural imbalance and tremor. To this day, there is no cure for the disease, but there are medications to relieve the symptoms. LÄS MER
25. Sensorimotor characteristics in chronic neck pain : possible pathophysiological mechanisms and implications for rehabilitation
Sammanfattning : Pain from the musculoskeletal system is very common in the modern society. Chronic musculoskeletal pain syndromes causes not only individual suffering but also dysfunctions of movements and postural control, as large costs for the society. LÄS MER
