  1. 1. On the relationship between psychometric intelligence and decision making in dynamic systems

    Författare :Georgios Rigas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Advanced progressive matrices; complexity continuum; complex problem solving; decision-making; dynamic systems; intelligence; intransparency; microworlds; task novelty; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The relationship between psychometric intelligence and performance in dynamic decision making systems (microworlds) was investigated. A theoretical analysis of the mental processes that underlie performance in intelligence tests and microworlds suggested that at least some weak positive correlations should be expected. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Learning physics with Controllable Worlds : Perspectives for examining and augmenting physics students' engagement with digital learning environments

    Författare :Elias Euler; Bor Gregorcic; Cedric Linder; Michael C. Wittmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Controllable Worlds; digital learning environments; modeling; semi-formalisms; microworlds; social semiotics; conversation analysis; embodied cognition; disciplinary-relevant aspects; responsive teaching; variation theory; contrast; dimensions of variation; relevance structure; creativity; grounded theory; activity types; exploration; testing; engineering; Physics with specialization in Physics Education; Fysik med inriktning mot fysikens didaktik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I present a collection of case studies involving small groups of participants using ‘Controllable Worlds’—i.e., a particular class of physics digital learning environment (DLE) including simulations, ‘microworlds,’ and educational games that provides users with control over manipulable virtual environments. 3. 3. Perspectives on the role of digital tools in students' open-ended physics inquiry

    Författare :Elias Euler; Bor Gregorcic; Cedric Linder; Konrad Schönborn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; digital learning environments; modeling; semi-formalisms; microworlds; social semiotics; embodied cognition; disciplinary-relevant aspects; Physics with specialization in Physics Education; Fysik med inriktning mot fysikens didaktik;

    Sammanfattning : In this licentiate thesis, I present detailed case studies of students as they make use of simulated digital learning environments to engage with physics phenomena. In doing so, I reveal the moment-to-moment minutiae of physics students’ open-ended inquiry in the presence of two digital tools, namely the sandbox software Algodoo and the PhET simulation My Solar System (both running on an interactive whiteboard). 4. 4. Towards the mitigation of cultural barriers to communication and cooperation

    Författare :Ida Lindgren; Kip Smith; Ann Enander; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multinational cooperation; cultural differences; cross-cultural psychology; emergency management; teamwork; microworlds; group faultlines; Work sciences and ergonomics; Arbetsvetenskap och ergonomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis combines theories from cross-cultural psychology with literature on group faultlines to understand cultural barriers to communication and cooperation experienced in multinational emergency management teams. The aim is to investigate whether the faultline concept is a viable theoretical vocabulary for addressing cultural differences in communication and cooperation (in the domain of emergency management). 5. 5. Fördelade kunskapsprocesser i ledningscentraler vid nödsituationer : Koordination och situationsmedvetenhet

    Författare :Henrik Artman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Dynamic Decision Making; Distributed Cognition; Distributed Decision Making; Coordination; Communication; Cognition; Emergency Management; Command and Control; Microworld; Situation Awareness; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to an understanding of how people work in co-ordination centres for controlling dynamic environments. It examines several theoretical perspectives that have been used to analyse cognition, co-operation and technology within dynamic decision-making. LÄS MER
