31. Influence of FK506 on certain aspects of lymphocyte activation and lymphocyte-endothelial cell interactions in vitro
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the influence of the immunosuppressive drug FK506 on mitogen-induced changes in the expression of subunits a and ß of the IL-2 receptor by isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been studied. Up-regulation and release of the a-chain were potently depressed by FK506, even in the presence of exogenous IL-2. LÄS MER
32. Electrochemical and Enzymatic In Vitro Studies on Reactive Drug Metabolites. Synthesis, Characterization and Avoidance
Sammanfattning : During development of pharmaceuticals, it is essential to as early as possible identify and preferably avoid formation of reactive metabolites and intermediates. Reactive metabolites may represent obstacles in the development and use of drugs, due to their potential toxicity. LÄS MER
33. Chemical genetics discloses the importance of heme and glucose metabolism in Chlamydia trachomatis pathogenesis
Sammanfattning : Chlamydiae are important human bacterial pathogens with an intracellular life cycle that consists of two distinct bacterial forms, an infectious form (EB) that infects the eukaryotic host cell, and a non-infectious form (RB) that allows intracellular proliferation. To be successful, chlamydiae need to alternate between EB and RB to generate infectious EB’s which are competent to infect new host cells. LÄS MER
34. Drug transport and metabolism in in vitro models of the human intestine : By Shamsi D. Raeissi
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to study the mechanisms of drug transport and metabolism in two different in vitro models of the human intestine: monolayers of human intestinal epithelial cell lines and intestinal microsomes. The first part of the thesis shows that Caco-2 cell monolayers are a good model for mechanistic studies of drug transport. LÄS MER
35. PPARs in the regulation of gene expression and lipid metabolism in the liver
Sammanfattning : Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors, regulating genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Synthetic PPARalpha agonists used in clinic are the fibrates, and their hypotriglyceridemic effect is believed to be the result of decreased VLDL triglyceride secretion and increased turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles in the circulation.
