  1. 6. Chosen Children? : An empirical study and a philosophical analysis of moral aspects of pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and germ-line gene therapy

    Författare :Kristin Zeiler; Lennart Nordenfelt; Gunilla Tegern; Karin Sporre; Åge Wifstaad; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Empirical ethics; pre-implantation genetic diagnosis; germ-line gene therapy; qualitative research; philosophical analysis; medical progress; genetic disease; choice; auautonomous; ambivalence; trust; genetic identity; Genterapi; biologisk etik; medicinsk etik; preimplanatorisk genetisk diagnostik; Philosophy subjects; Filosofiämnen;

    Sammanfattning : With pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), genetic testing and selective transfer of embryos is possible. In the future, germ-line gene therapy (GLGT) applied to embryos before implantation, in order to introduce missing genes or replace mutant ones, may be possible. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Environmental heterogeneity, population dynamics and life-history differentiation in Primula farinosa

    Författare :Tove von Euler; Johan Ehrlén; Jon Ågren; Olav Skarpaas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Allocation to reproduction is a key life-history trait. Optimal allocation to reproduction depends on environmental conditions because of their effects both on costs and benefits of reproduction and on patterns of growth, fecundity, and mortality. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Early Life Environmental Risk Factors and Gut Microbiota in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis : - More than a gut feeling

    Författare :Erik Kindgren; Rosaura Casas; Johnny Ludvigsson; Thomas Abrahamsson; Robin Kahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Juvenile idiopathic arthritis JIA ; Gut microbiota; Nutrition; Autoimmunity; Rheumatic disease;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The autoimmune disease juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease in children, but the cause is not fully established. Only a small percentage (13–18%) of the risk of contracting the disease can be attributed to genetic factors, but environmental factors are believed to be behind most of the risk. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Norovirus and rotavirus susceptibility : studies from a Nicaraguan birth cohort

    Författare :Yaoska Reyes; Johan Nordgren; Lennart Svensson; Miren Iturriza-Gómara; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Norovirus; Rotavirus; Birth cohort; Gastroenteritis; Incidence; Children; Secretor; Immune response.;

    Sammanfattning : Norovirus and rotavirus are major causes of pediatric acute gastroenteritis (AGE). It is estimated that norovirus is responsible for ~20% of all diarrheal diseases in children worldwide and causes approximately 200,000 deaths each year, mostly in young children and the elderly. 5. 10. Male Subfertility and Prostate Cancer Risk: Epidemiological and Genetic Studies

    Författare :Yasir Ruhayel; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytoplasmic and nuclear; Receptors; Prostatic neoplasms; genetic; Polymorphism; male; Infertility; Hypogonadism; Genetic association studies; Case–control studies; Androgens;

    Sammanfattning : Androgen action plays a pivotal role in male reproductive tract physiology and pathology. The androgen receptor (AR) gene harbors two codon repeat tracts: the CAG and GGN repeats, encoding corresponding amino acid sequences of variable length; the polyglutamine and polyglycine stretches, respectively.
