  1. 11. Communication breakdown - synaptic dysfunction in Huntington's disease

    Författare :Ruben Smith; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurodegeneration; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; cholinergic neuron; exocytosis; transmitter release; intracellular transport; insulin; Huntington s disease; synapse; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Huntington's disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by a CAG-triplet expansion in the gene encoding the protein huntingtin. The disease typically starts in mid-life and progresses for 15-20 years. To date no effective treatment is available for curing the disease. HD primarily affects the striatum, cerebral cortex and hypothalamus. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Enterostatin - target proteins and intracellular mechanisms. Function in food intake and energy metabolism

    Författare :Karin Berger; Molekylär endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP; energy metabolism; insulin; uncoupling protein; beta-casomorphin; opiate; SK-N-MC; INS-1; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; fat intake; F1F0-ATP synthase; appetite; enterostatin; satiety; obesity;

    Sammanfattning : Hunger and satiety are the results of complex neural events that involve several neurotransmitters and peptides. Enterostatin is an appetite-regulating peptide released in the intestine in response to fat ingestion. Enterostatin specifically decreases fat intake, but has also metabolic effects like inhibition of insulin secretion. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Perinatal Energy Substrate Metabolism : Glucose Production and Lipolysis in Pregnant Women and Newborn Infants with Particular Reference to Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR)

    Författare :Barbro Diderholm; Jan Gustafsson; Uwe Ewald; Olle Söder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Lipolysis; Glucose; Newborn infant; Pregnant women; IUGR; Insulin; Stable isotopes; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose is the most important fetal nutrient and the production of this substrate increases in the pregnant woman. In the last trimester the increased insulin resistance directs energy substrates to the fetus. Fetal growth is sometimes disturbed, often without an obvious explanation. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Emotional and physiological responses to touch massage

    Författare :Lenita Lindgren; Christine Brulin; Ola Winsö; Stefan Lehtipalo; Lars Berggren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Touch; touch massage; emotion; anxiety; autonomic nervous sytem; brain; stress; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Clinical findings indicate that touch massage has the ability to induce positive emotions and influence stress responses. However, little is known about mechanisms that can explain observed responses.Aim: To understand mechanisms behind observed emotional and physiological responses during and after touch massage. 5. 15. Studies of in vivo prostate amyloidosis and autoimmune responses towards amyloid structures in neurodegeneration

    Författare :Kiran Yanamandra; Ludmilla Morozova-Roche; Dina Raveh; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amyloid; amyloidosis; immune reactivity; S100A8 A9; insulin; α-synuclein; Biochemistry; Biokemi; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : By using multidisciplinary analysis of CA inclusions in prostate glands of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, we have revealed that their major components are the amyloid forms of S100A8 and S100A9 proteins associated with numerous inflammatory conditions and types of cancer. We have demonstrated that material closely resembling CA can be produced from S100A8/A9 in vitro and shows the characters of amyloids. LÄS MER
