    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy are disorders featuring accumulation of Lewy bodies in brain. The main component of these large insoluble intracellular inclusions is the presynaptic protein alpha-synuclein (α-synuclein). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fluorescence microscopy studies of interactions between monomeric α-Synuclein and lipid membranes

    Författare :Alexandra Andersson; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; single vesicle imaging; single molecule imaging; protein-lipid interactions; α-Synuclein;

    Sammanfattning : α-Synuclein (α-Syn), is an intrinsically disordered protein present in the substantia nigra part of the brain. α-Syn is commonly known to associate with lipid membranes containing anionic lipids. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), frontotemporal lobar dementia (FTLD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are disorders characterized by the progressive deposition of proteinaceous inclusions throughout the brain in a predictable manner. Each disease is described by the involvement of different misfolded and aggregated proteins (AD, amyloid-β and tau; PD, α-synuclein; ALS and FTLD, TDP-43) that spread between anatomically connected brain regions, causing cell death in previously healthy regions. 4. 4. α-synuclein interactions with lipid membranes

    Författare :Katarzyna Makasewicz; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpha-Synuclein; lipid membranes; protein-lipid interactions; binding cooperativity; membrane remodeling; protei-lipid co-aggregation;

    Sammanfattning : α-synuclein is an intrinsically disordered protein implicated in synaptic vesicle trafficking at the synapse. Accumulation of α-synuclein in the form of amyloid deposits coincides with the loss of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinsons disease. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Our understanding of the α-synuclein aggregation process and the consequences thereof is currently limited, which in turn prevents the development of targeted therapeutic interventions. The work presented here, as a part of this thesis, is focused on expanding our understanding of the molecular events involved in α-synuclein aggregation. LÄS MER
