21. Ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes : A study on farming and farmers in South Africa and Sweden
Sammanfattning : Humanity is facing challenges of sustainably producing enough food for a growing population without further eroding the world’s ecosystems. Transformation of natural habitats into agriculture has resulted in opportunities for civilization, but has also led to land degradation and loss of biodiversity, threatening the generation of ecosystem services. 22. Stroke in geriatric patients - Aspects of depression, cognition and motor activity
Sammanfattning : Six depression rating scales, GDS, Zung, CES-D, CPRS-D and Cornell, were compared in 40 patients. The validity was good for all scales except for the Cornell scale. A comprehensive investigation was done in 116 elderly stroke patients. There was no difference in prevalence and severity of post-stroke depression in relation to side of lesion. LÄS MER
23. Prediction, modeling, and refinement of protein structure
Sammanfattning : Accurate predictions of protein structure are important for understanding many processes in cells. The interactions that govern protein folding and structure are complex, and still far from completely understood. However, progress is being made in many areas. Here, efforts to improve the overall quality of protein structure models are described. LÄS MER
24. Superimposition of Contractional Structures in Models and Nature
Sammanfattning : Superimposition of contractional structures is widely observed in different scales in the world. Superimposed structures form due to different processes: change in strain accommodation from one type of structure to another during a single progressive shortening; successive coaxial shortening phases separated by an unconformity; superimposition of different non-coaxial shortening phases. 25. An Optimisation Approach to Cartographic Generalisation
Sammanfattning : Cartographic generalisation is the process of simplifying a representation to suit the scale and purpose of a map. As such, generalisation has always been a central part in map production. This thesis is a contribution to the ongoing work on automating cartographic generalisation. LÄS MER
