Sammanfattning : This work focuses on crustal interaction in magmatic systems, drawing on experimental petrology and elemental and isotope geochemistry. Various magma-chamber processes such as magma-mixing, fractional crystallisation and magma-crust interaction are explored throughout the papers comprising the thesis. LÄS MER
2. Petrology and Geochemistry of the nakhlite meteorites : Tracking complex igneous and aqueous processes on Mars during the Amazonian
Sammanfattning : The overarching science question being addressed by this research project was the geological history of the nakhlite group of Martian meteorites as representative of a young Amazonian Martian crust. This included the magmatic processes and mechanism of emplacement at the origin of the meteorites but also the nature of a young Amazonian Martian aquifer that circulated throughout the nakhlites bedrock from its chemistry, origin and longevity. Sammanfattning : This thesis uses various approaches such as observation of satellite images, field investigations, analogue modeling and GPS measurements to constrain deformation of the basement and sedimentary cover of the Zagros fold-thrust belt in time and space.Focal mechanism solutions of most earthquakes indicate that deformation in the Zagros basement is due to shortening and thickening through numerous thrust faults. 4. Diagenesis and Sequence Stratigraphy : an integrated approach to constrain evolution of reservoir quality in sandstones
Sammanfattning : Diagenesis and sequence stratigraphy have been formally treated as two separate disciplines in sedimentary petrology. This thesis demonstrates that synergy between these two subjects can be used to constrain evolution of reservoir quality in sandstones. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : This thesis proposes that the Pan-African tectonic grain in eastem Eritrea influenced theCenozoic opening of the Red Sea. Evidence is based on studies of the structures and fabrics of various phases associated with both the Pan-African orogeny and subsequent Red Sea extension. LÄS MER
