  1. 1. Strain quantifications in different tectonic scales using numerical modelling

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Lukas Fuchs; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Deformation modelling; progressive and finite deformation; salt tectonics; down-built diapir; upper mantle; lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary; seismic anisotropy; plate-mantle de coupling; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on calculation of finite and progressive deformation in different tectonic scales using 2D numerical models with application to natural cases. Essentially, two major tectonic areas have been covered: a) salt tectonics and b) upper mantle deformation due to interaction between the lithosphere and asthenosphere. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Characterising volcanic magma plumbing systems A tool to improve eruption forecasting at hazardous volcanoes

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :David A. Budd; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma plumbing; oxygen isotopes; thermobarometry; crustal assimilation; Katla; Merapi; Kelud; Toba; volcanic hazards; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis attempts to develop our understanding of volcanic magma plumbing systems and the magmatic processes that operate within them, such as fractional crystallisation, crustal partial melting, assimilation, and magma mixing. I utilise petrology, rock and mineral geochemistry, and isotope systematics to seek to improve our ability to forecast the eruptive frequency and style of active volcanoes, an aspect often lacking in current volcano monitoring efforts. 3. 3. Magma plumbing architecture in Indonesia and the North Atlantic Igneous Province

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Börje Dahrén; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma plumbing; geothermobarometry; plagioclase; clinopyroxene; magma-crust interaction; hazard mitigation; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Magma plumbing systems represent the physical framework of magma transport and storage from the source region in the mantle, through the crust, until reaching the surface in a volcanic eruption. Characterising the different aspects of magma plumbing, in particular the distribution of magma storage zones throughout the crust, is of key importance to better understand the behaviour of individual volcanoes. 4. 4. Parameters Controlling Distribution of Diagenetic Alterations within Fluvial and Shallow Marine Sandstone Reservoirs Evidence from the Libyan Basins

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Muftah Khalifa; Uppsala universitet.; [2016]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diagenesis; Structural setting; Depositional facies; Basin thermal history; Ther- mal Hot basinal brines; Fluid inclusions; Raman Spectrometry; Stylolites; Hydro-carbon migration; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis demonstrates that geological setting, depositional facies, open system flux of hot basinal brines and descending of shallow waters have a strong impact on the distribution of the diagenetic alterations within continental and paralic/shallow marine sandstones which in turn control the quality and heterogeneities of the reservoirs.Geological setting controls the mineralogical and textural maturity of sandstone, whereas depositional facies control the pore water chemistry (marine, brackish or meteoric), sedimentary texture and sand body geometry. 5. 5. The dynamic emplacement of felsic magma in the upper crust

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Tobias Mattsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2018]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laccolith; cryptodome; magma emplacement; magma flow; magma rheology; granite; rhyolite; pluton; AMS; XCT; thermobarometry; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Felsic magma intrudes earth’s upper crust through a variety of mechanisms. Magma intrusion growth and shape have mainly been explained in terms of host rock properties and intrusion depth, while considering the magma as an overpressurised fluid. LÄS MER
