11. Definition of axonal injury tolerances across scales : A computational multiscale approach
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is today regarded as a global health challenge. Revealing how external mechanical loads translate into tissue and cellular damage is necessary, not only for the development of better preventive measures, but also for the definition of treatments that could spare the patients from suffering TBI's devastating consequences. 12. From Multiple Scale Modeling to Multiscale-Modeling
Sammanfattning : To power a sustainable future, interest in battery research and technology is at an all time high. In order to enable a transition to green tech many applications, such as the automotive industry, is in need of higher power densities, energy densities, longer life-times, and safer batteries. 13. Active Memory Processing on Multiple Time-scales in Simulated Cortical Networks with Hebbian Plasticity
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines declarative memory function, and its underlying neural activity and mechanisms in simulated cortical networks. The included simulation models utilize and synthesize proposed universal computational principles of the brain, such as the modularity of cortical circuit organization, attractor network theory, and Hebbian synaptic plasticity, along with selected biophysical detail from the involved brain areas to implement functional models of known cortical memory systems. 14. Tailoring the magnetic order in mesoscopic spin systems
Sammanfattning : Mesoscopic spin systems can be designed and fabricated using modern nano-fabrication techniques. These systems can contain large numbers of patterned ferromagnetic elements, for which the shape will generally determine their effective mesospin dimensionality. LÄS MER
15. The Impact of Multiple Drivers on Marine Systems : Novel approaches for studying structural changes
Sammanfattning : Human action is transforming the species composition, biogeochemistry and habitats of the world’s oceans at unprecedented rates. The cumulative effect of natural and anthropogenic drivers is challenging to measure, in part due to indirect effects and the complexity of marine systems. LÄS MER
