16. Neurotransmission and functional synaptic plasticity in the rat medial preoptic nucleus
Sammanfattning : Brain function implies complex information processing in neuronal circuits, critically dependent on the molecular machinery that enables signal transmission across synaptic contacts between neurons. The types of ion channels and receptors in the neuronal membranes vary with neuron types and brain regions and determine whether neuronal responses will be excitatory or inhibitory and often allow for functional synaptic plasticity which is thought to be the basis for much of the adaptability of the nervous system and for our ability to learn and store memories. 17. Neurogenesis in the adult brain from ballyhoo to sobriety
Sammanfattning : New neurons are spontaneously generated in two regions of the adult brain, the hippocampus and the subventricular zone/olfactory bulb. The objective of this thesis was to study potential implications for adult neurogenesis in Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's diseases (PD). LÄS MER
18. Regulation of insulin producing cells, stress responses and metabolism in Drosophila
Sammanfattning : In Drosophila, neuropeptides have regulatory roles in development, growth, metabolism and reproduction. This study focused on GABA and the neuropeptides Drosophila tachykinin (DTK), short neuropeptide F (sNPF), adipokinetic hormone (AKH), corazonin (CRZ) and Drosophila insulin-like peptides (DILPs) as possible regulators of metabolic stress responses and homeostasis. 19. Allopregnanolone effects on food intake and weight gain
Sammanfattning : Background Obesity is currently one of the major causes of ill health and it is clear that overeatingis the cause of obesity. However, the actions of many endogenous factors that contribute to overeating are still not well understood. LÄS MER
20. Taste Hedonics and the Intake of Alcohol and Food
Sammanfattning : This thesis includes four papers based on animal experimental work. They analyze the way in which activation of a specific motivational state - hunger- modulates the rewarding actions of alcohol and taste palatability. LÄS MER
