  1. 1. The endocrine heart - metabolic actions of atrial natriuretic peptide

    Författare :Amra Jujic; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial natriuretic peptide; type 2 diabetes; rs5068; insulin resistance; glucose dependent insulinotropic peptide; glucagon-like peptide-1; left ventricular hypertrophy;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The natriuretic peptides (NPs), namely atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and bran natriuretic peptide (BNP), which are secreted from cardiomyocytes in response to cardiac wall stress, play a significant role in the regulation of blood pressure, intravascular volume, and cardiac remodeling. Recently, NPs emerged as hormones with metabolic actions such as inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system and inhibition of inflammation, together with lipolysis and adipose tissue browning. 2. 2. Endogenous hormones in the etiology of ovarian and endometrial cancers

    Författare :Annekatrin Lukanova; Eva Lundin; Pär Stattin; Rudolf Kaaks; Susan E. Hankinson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; ovarian cancer; endometrial cancer; sex-steroid hormones; sex-hormone binding globulin; insulin-like growth factor-I; insulin-like growth factor bidning proteins; C-peptide; Folkhälsomedicin; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden; epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to examine the relationship of pre-diagnostic circulating levels of sex-steroids (androgens and estrogens), sex hormone binding globuline (SHBG), insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), IGF binding proteins (BP) and C-peptide (as a marker of pancreatic insulin secretion) with risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer. Additionally, the interrelationships of body mass index (BMI), sex-steroids, IGF-I and IGFBP-3 were examined. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nitrates and Left Ventricular Dysfunction

    Författare :Erik Tingberg; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipid peroxidation; malondialdehyde; peptide; brain natriuretic peptide; left ventricular dysfunction; nitrates; acute myocardial infarction; heart failure; atrial natriuretic; diuretics; echocardiography; haemodynamic measurements; neurohumoral activation; diastolic dysfunction; Cardiovascular system; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Kardiovaskulära systemet; oxidative stress; isoprostanes;

    Sammanfattning : Use of beta-blockers and inhibitors of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) is established practice in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). Clinical studies also suggest beneficial long-term effects of nitrates in CHF. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structure and function of relaxins

    Författare :Linda M. Haugaard-Kedström; Johan Rosengren; Torleif Härd; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; relaxin; insulin-like peptide; peptide hormone; peptide synthesis and NMR; Organic Chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The relaxin/insulin superfamily is a group of peptide hormones that consists of ten members in human, namely relaxins 1-3, insulin-like peptides (INSL) 3-6, insulin and insulin-like growth factors (IGF) I-II. These peptides have various functions in the body, such as regulating growth, blood glucose levels,  collagen metabolism, germ cell maturation and appetite. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Microbial regulation of Insulin-like peptide 5 and its implication on metabolism and bariatric surgery

    Författare :Ying Shiuan Lee; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gut microbiota; gut hormones; Insulin-like peptide 5; bariatric surgery;

    Sammanfattning : The microbial community in our gastrointestinal tract, the gut microbiota, has great impact on our physiology. Particularly, the role for gut microbiota in host health and disease has been associated with modulation of gut hormones which are key players in the regulation of energy homeostasis. LÄS MER
