  1. 16. Salivary function after pediatric bone marrow transplantation

    Författare :Mats Bågesund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bone marrow transplantation; total body irradiation; cancer; children; saliva; xerostomia; scintigraphy;

    Sammanfattning : Salivary gland dysfunction is one of the oral long-term complications that most affect the quality of life among long-term survivors after treatment for malignant diseases. The aims of the studies in this thesis were to examine the effect of pediatric bone marrow transplantation (BMT) conditioning regimens on salivary function, caries-associated microflora, and development of dental caries; define risk factors of salivary dysfunction; evaluate subjective xerostomia; and study functional disturbances in the major salivary glands using salivary gland scintigraphy (SGS). 2. 17. Vascular density and bone marrow fibrosis in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Författare :Ulrika Norén Nyström; Anders Bergh; Erik Forestier; Göran Roos; Henrik Schrøder; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia; microvessel density; bone marrow fibrosis; in vitro drug resistance; minimal residual disease; outcome; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the cure rate has now reached 80% in the western world. Even so, 15¬–20% will die from the disease or treatment-related causes, among them children who did not present any known unfavorable features at diagnosis. LÄS MER

  3. 18. BMP implants in bone formation. Studies in rabbits and rats

    Författare :Charlotte Jeppsson; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; graft resorption.; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; bone formation; bone graft; hydroxyapatite; collagen; bisphosphonate; rat; rabbit; titanium chamber; BMP; TGF-ß;

    Sammanfattning : Bone morphogenic proteins, BMPs, are a group endogenous proteins that are highly conserved through evolution. The amino acid sequences of about 15 different BMPs are now known and recombinant human BMPs are commercially available. Implantation of an individual BMP protein is sufficient to induce bone formation even at a subcutaneous site. LÄS MER

  4. 19. On surgical techniques to increase bone density and volume. Studies in the rat and the rabbit

    Författare :Christer Slotte; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autogeneic bone; bovine bone mineral; calvaria; cortical perforation; guided bone augmentation; maxilla; microangiography; morphometry; rabbit; rat; tibia; titanium implants; vessel topography;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND. Various techniques of surgical intervention have been suggested to promote bone densityand volume; however, the predictability of such techniques is not always sufficiently supported by preclinicalevaluations.AIM. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Modern Staging in Primary Breast Cancer-aspects of micrometastatic disease in bone marrow and molecular profiles in lymph node metastases

    Författare :Anna-Karin Falck; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; biomarker expression; lymph node metastases; relapse; molecular subtype classification; disseminated tumour cells; bone marrow; prognosis; mode of detection;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease with variations in the biological profile and subsequent clinical prognosis. Molecular mechanisms for tumour progression are currently being explored in scientific settings, suggesting parallel evolution of tumour cells at primary and metastatic locations. LÄS MER
