21. The effects of neurotrophic substances on primary sensory neurons following peripheral nerve injury
Sammanfattning : Sensory impulses from the periphery is transmitted by primary sensory neurons located in dorsal root and cranial nerve ganglia. The primary sensory neurons are phenotypically diverse with regard to their expression of various chemical components. LÄS MER
22. Factors influencing the turnover of olfactory receptor neurons
Sammanfattning : The olfactory system has a striking capacity for neuronal plasticity throughout life and the olfactory epithelium is able to generate both neuronal and non-neuronal cells in the normal adult animal as well as after experimental injury. In contrast to primary sensory neurons, olfactory axons are able to cross the border between the PNS and CNS in the olfactory bulb after transection in the adult animal. LÄS MER
23. Gluco- and mineralocorticoid receptor regulation of regional brain neurotrophism
Sammanfattning : Gluco- and mineralocorticoid hormones exert powerful actions on brain function and are important in the mediation of the stress response and the survival of hippocampal neurons. The aim of this thesis was to study the influence of glucocorticoid (GR)/mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) actions on brain neurotrophism including analyses of immediate early genes (IEGs) and of feedback responses on GR and/or MR. 24. Regulation of CGRP expression in rat spinal motoneurons
Sammanfattning : The normal distribution and lesion-induced changes in the expression of neuropeptides and growth-related proteins, with special reference to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP),were studied in the motor system of the rat. In addition, factors that influence the expression of CGRP in motoneurons were identified. LÄS MER
25. Peripherally administered choleocystokinin-8 increases neurotrophins in the brain
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to test the hypothesis that the gastric hormone Cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) can modulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in the brain. NGF is the first discovered and the best characterized neurotrophic factor which plays a crucial role in the survival and development of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCN). LÄS MER
