1. Peripherally administered choleocystokinin-8 increases neurotrophins in the brain
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to test the hypothesis that the gastric hormone Cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) can modulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in the brain. NGF is the first discovered and the best characterized neurotrophic factor which plays a crucial role in the survival and development of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCN). LÄS MER
2. Cholecystokinin, dopamine and glutamate in subcortical and peripheral control of food intake
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyzes some of the mechanisms whereby cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8) inhibits food intake in male rats. Depletion of monoamines using reserpine blocked the capacity for ingestive responses. These responses were restored in reserpinized rats by treatment with the non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist MK-801. LÄS MER
3. Neuro-immune communication: role of the vagus nerve : an electrophysiological study
Sammanfattning : Defence mechanisms involve close interactions between the nervous and immune systems following an immune challenge. The vagal pathways which modulate major visceral functions under normal conditions are also important neural pathways for the transmission of information on peripheral conditions to the CNS. LÄS MER
4. The influence of nitric oxide and cholecystokinin on tissue homeostasis in exocrine pancreas : an experimental study in rats
Sammanfattning : Growth of the pancreas is stimulated by cholecystokinin (CCK) in rats. Nitric oxide (NO), which is synthesized from the amino acid L-arginine by NO-synthases (NOS), interferes with CCK in modulating the pancreatic secretion. LÄS MER
5. Factors inhibiting ingestive behavior in chronic renal failure
Sammanfattning : Protein-energy malnutrition and wasting occur in many patients with chronic renal failure. Reduced nutrient intake because of anorexia, nausea and vomiting, caused by uremic toxicity is an important factor. LÄS MER
