  1. 1. Targeting and driving somatosensory neurons

    Författare :Fabio Freitag; Malin C. Lagerström; Andrew Todd; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pain; Itch; GRPR interneurons; dorsal horn; trigeminal nucleus caudalis; Barrel field;

    Sammanfattning : Pain and itch are two distinct sensations, but the fundamental question of how our nervous system distinguishes the processing and encoding of their related information is still far to be clearly delineated. At the spinal cord level, evidences have pointed out specific groups of neurons expressing the gastrin releasing peptide (Grp) and its receptor (Grpr) as responsible for carrying specifically itch-related information. 2. 2. Immunocytochemical studies of excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters and transporters in the spinal cord and nucleus submedius

    Författare :Stefan Persson; Neurofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; VGLUT2; VGLUT1; pain; somatosensory; thalamus; immunogold; glutamate; aspartate; dorsal horn; excitatory amino acids; spinal cord; neurofysiologi; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : The amino acid glutamate is today regarded as the main fast excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and a large body of evidence support that glutamate serves as a neurotransmitter in primary afferent terminals in the spinal cord. Previous evidence also suggests that the closely related amino acid aspartate may serve a similar role in some primary afferent terminals. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On cholecystokinin-opioid interaction in the spinal dorsal horn following peripheral nerve injury and inflammation

    Författare :Guilherme de Araújo Lucas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cholecystokinin; Cholecystokinin receptors; Morphine; Spinal cord; Axotomy; Inflammation; Peptide release; Morphine tolerance; [my]-opioid receptor; Flexor reflex; Microdialysis;

    Sammanfattning : The peptide cholecystokinin (CCK) antagonizes opioid-induced analgesia. Conversely, antagonists of CCK receptors enhance the analgesic effect of opioids. Together, these results support a role for CCK as an anti-opioid peptide in pain mechanisms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neuropeptide release in the rat dorsal horn in models of persistent pain : effects of opioids

    Författare :Abdullahi Warsame Afrah; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Axotomy; Inflammation; Long term potentiation; Capsaicin; Opioids; Cholecystokinin; Substance P; Glutamate; NMDA; Spinal cord; Microdialysis; Radioimmunoassay.;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve injury and tissue inflammation may lead to exaggerated responses to both noxious stimuli (hyperalgesia) and innocuous stimuli (allodynia). Altered release pattems of neurotransmitters in the dorsal hom of the spinal cord have been suggested to contribute to hyperalgesia and allodynia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modulation of pain by immune factors : a study on interferon-g and its receptor in nociceptive transmission

    Författare :Kristina S Vikman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cytokines; interferon-gamma; dorsal horn; hypersensitivity; nociceptive transmission; pain; GluR1; AMPA receptor; disinhibition; spontaneous activity; primary cell culture; two-compartment model; spinal cord.;

    Sammanfattning : Immune cytokines have been implicated as important neuromodulators, contributing to neuronal plasticity both in the adult and developing nervous system. In addition, they have been assigned a potential role in the generation of pathological pain, which may occur as a severe symptom following disease states in the nervous system. LÄS MER
