  1. 6. Molecular epidemiology of coagulase-negative staphylococci in hospitals and in the community

    Författare :Micael Widerström; Johan Wiström; Tor Monsen; Anders Sjöstedt; Bo Söderquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; staphylococcus epidermidis; staphylococcus saprophyticus; electrophoresis; gel; pulsed-field; genetic diversity; methicillin-resistance; UTI; drug resistance; multiple; bacterial; epidemiology; molecular; cross infection; molecular sequence data; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi; Clinical bacteriology; Klinisk bakteriologi; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Clinical Bacteriology; klinisk bakteriologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Background Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) and in particular Staphylococcus epidermidis have emerged as major pathogens primarily causing nosocomial infections in patients with indwelling medical devices. These infections are often caused by multidrug-resistant strains of S. epidermidis (MDRSE). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicles. Mediators of virulence and antibiotic resistance

    Författare :Viveka Schaar; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Moraxella catarrhalis; epithelial cells; beta-lactamase; non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae; outer membrane vesicles; polymicrobial infections; UspA1;

    Sammanfattning : Outer membrane vesicles (OMV) have the size of nanoparticles and are released from the outer membrane of most Gram-negative bacteria. The OMV reflect the composition of the bacterial outer membrane, including lipids and virulence factors specific for the pathogen, and are involved in pathogenesis and bacterial survival. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Species specific susceptibility testing for ß-lactam antibiotics. With special reference to staphylococci

    Författare :Ann Cathrine Petersson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bakteriologi; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virology; bacteriology; beta-lactamase; staphylococcus; methicillin resistance; Microbiology; mecA susceptibility testing; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to identify methods for the detection of ß-lactam resistance in staphylococci, bacteria often causing nosocomial infections. Detection of ß-lactam resistance in these species is difficult due to strong regulation of genes encoding for the two main resistance mechanisms, ß-lactamase production and the penicillin-binding protein (PBP) 2?. 4. 9. Samtal, identiteter och positionering : Ungdomars interaktion i en mångkulturell miljö

    Författare :Charlotte Engblom; Staffan Hellberg; Karin Junefelt; Dennis Day; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; interaction; identity; ethnification; multicultural environment; positioning; young people; Swedish; Swedish language; Svenska språket; Scandinavian languages;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns how identity among young people (aged 16-19) living in a multicultural area in Stockholm is made relevant. The aim is to analyse the identities that arise in situated interaction between young people and their peer group and with other people in their everyday life. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Antibiotic interactions and selection for resistance in biofilms

    Författare :Po-Cheng Tang; Dan I. Andersson; Karin Hjort; Mark Webber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibiotics; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The challenges posed by antibiotic-resistant bacteria in treating infections, particularly those associated with biofilms, require a deeper understanding of this lifestyle and its connection to resistance selection. Additionally, gaining insights into drug interactions is crucial for enhancing combination treatment efficacy and mitigating resistance development. LÄS MER
