  1. 31. Tryptophan-related Neurotransmission in the Brain: Disturbances Associated with Experimental Hepatic Encephalopathy

    Författare :Peter B F Bergqvist; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tetrodotoxin; serotonin; release; rat; quinolinic acid; potassium; chloroamphetamine; noradrenaline; neurotransmission; microdialysis; hepatic encephalopathy; fenfluramine; drug safety; dopamine; coma; citalopram; ammonia; calcium; brain; tryptophan; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the present study, L-tryptophan (TRP)-related disturbances in the brain in experimental hepatic encephalopathy (HE) were investigated. The endogenous NMDA-receptor agonist and L-TRP metabolite quinolinic acid (QUIN) has been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of HE. LÄS MER

  2. 32. On the biology of premenstrual dysphoria and panic disorder

    Författare :Hoi-Por Ho; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; reuptake inhibitor; estrogen; progesterone; irritability; respiration; estrus cycle; polymorphism; resident intruder model;

    Sammanfattning : Premenstrual dysphoria (PMD) afflicts 7% of all women of fertile age, and is characterized by symptoms such as irritability, sadness, and mood swings, appearing regularly before menstruation, and being of such severity that they markedly reduce quality of life. The symptoms are dependent of sex steroids, and seem to be under the influence of serotonin, since they respond to treatment with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs). LÄS MER

  3. 33. Involvement of non-dopaminergic systems in L-DOPA-induced dyskinsia

    Författare :Daniella Rylander; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; Dyskinesia; L-DOPA; 6-OHDA rat model; MPTP monkey model; glutamate; serotonin; DA.; 5-HT;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID) does not merely involve the dopamine (DA) system but also include non-dopaminergic systems such as glutamate and serotonin (5-HT). An aberrant glutamate transmission at the corticostriatal synapse, has been linked to LID. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy

    Författare :Hari Shanker Sharma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; blood-brain barrier; heat stress; hyperthermia; brain edema; serotonin; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; heat shock protein; glial fibrillary acidic protein; myelin basic protein; opioids; histamine; catecholamines; naloxone; indomethacin; p-CPA; electron microscopy; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 5. 35. Obsessive-compulsive disorders : Personality traits and disorders, autistic traits and biochemical findings

    Författare :Susanne Bejerot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Key words: Obsessive-compulsive disorder; Personality; Autistic disorder; Serotonin; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Psychiatry; psykiatri;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common disabling mental disorder.Personality disorders are frequent in OCD. Asperger syndrome and high-functioning autism share similarities with obsessive-compulsive and schizoid personality disorders and may be referred to as "odd" personality traits. Also compulsions are common in autism. LÄS MER
