26. The oxidative metabolism by eosinophils : Effects of allergen exposure and interleukin-5
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the oxidative metabolism by blood eosinophils from birch pollen allergic subjects was studied and compared to that by eosinophils from healthy controls, during and out of the pollen season. The effects and mechanisms of in vitro IL-5 priming on blood eosinophils were investigated and compared to the effects of in vivo priming during pollen exposure. LÄS MER
27. Regulation of the cytoskeleton and the adhesiveness of intestinal epithelial cells by leukotriene D4
Sammanfattning : Leukotrienes belong to a family of biologically active conjugated trienes that are formed from arachidonic acid via the 5-lipoxygenase pathway and are important mediators of inflammatory reactions. The CysLT1 receptor that specifically serves as receptor for leukotriene D4 (LTD4) has been identified as a G-protein coupled receptor. LÄS MER
28. Ferrochelatase and Magnesiumchelatase: Metal chelation studied with mutants
Sammanfattning : Magnesium chelatase and ferrochelatase are two very important enzymes, which are involved in chlorophyll and heme biosynthesis, respectively. They both use protoporphyrin IX as substrate but magnesium chelatase inserts a magnesium ion whereas ferrochelatase inserts a ferrous ion. These two enzymes have been studied in this thesis. LÄS MER
29. Development of sensitive cellular assay systems and their application to the identification of "orphan" seven-transmembrane receptors
Sammanfattning : Seven-transmembrane, G-protein coupled receptors play a central role in physiology since they facilitate cell communication in multicellular organisms by recognition of a broad range of ligands. They also represent important drug targets. LÄS MER
30. Biosynthesis of decorin and glypican glycosaminoglycan chains
Sammanfattning : Proteoglycans consist of core proteins substituted with glycosaminoglycan chains. The galactosaminoglycans (GlcUA/IdoUA-GalNAc) and the glucosaminoglycans (GlcUA/IdoUA-GlcNAc) are both initiated on the same tetrasaccharide linkage region GlcUA-Gal-Gal-Xyl-protein. LÄS MER
