  1. 1. Gene therapy of neuroblastoma

    Författare :Yvonne Arvidsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuroblastoma; gene therapy; PNP; ASK1; MASH1; IL-12; GM-CSF; immunotherapy; apoptosis.;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The survival of children with advanced stages of neuroblastoma has not improved significantly during recent years. Therefore additional treatments based on other modalities need to be developed. The objective of this thesis was to investigate the possibility to develop gene therapy of neuroblastoma. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On the binding of growth-promoting polyamines to proteoglycans: Implications for growth-regulation and polycation-mediated gene transfer

    Författare :Mattias Belting; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cationic lipid.; gene transfer; gene therapy; cell growth; polyamine transport; spermine; polyamine; growth-inhibition; heparan sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Initial investigations were directed at studying the interaction between polyamines and various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The polyamine spermine displayed binding to dermatan sulphate (DS) and heparan sulphate (HS) with similar (Kd, 3.9 x 10-4 M) and higher (Kd, 0.37 x 10-6 M) affinity, respectively, than to DNA. 3. 3. Regulation of gene expression in the vascular wall

    Författare :Erik Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :smooth muscle; endothelium; angiogenesis; SRF; myocardin; LPP; gene regulation; genetics; microRNA;

    Sammanfattning : Blood vessel growth and function are closely related to a number of pathological conditions, including tumor angiogenesis, wound healing and atherosclerosis. Smooth muscle cells (SMC) and endothelial cells (EC), the two major constituents of the vascular wall, are both characterized by the expression of unique phenotypic marker genes, many of which have vital roles in blood vessel development and disease. 4. 4. Genetic Variability in Human Bone Phenotypes : The Vitamin D Receptor Gene and the Estrogen Receptor-α Cofactor RIZ Gene

    Författare :Elin Grundberg; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Helena Brändström; André G. Uitterlinden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Bone mineral density; candidate gene approach; polymorphism; the vitamin D receptor; the estrogen receptor α; RIZ1; cofactor; allelic imbalance; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Important candidate genes to human bone phenotypes are those involved in the regulation of hormonal action, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and the estrogen receptor-α (ERα) genes and their cofactors. RIZ1 is a specific ERα cofactor proved to strongly enhance the function of the ERα. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Novel methods to study mitochondrial gene expression and homeostasis

    Författare :Magdalena Rzepka; Martin Ott; Christof Osman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondria; gene expression; metabolism; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are semi-autonomous organelles that harbor one of the main cellular processes – energy conversion. Nutrients available in the environment are taken up by cells and transformed into metabolites that can be used for synthesis of ATP, the energy currency of the cell. LÄS MER
