  1. 1. Complementary and alternative medicine in cancer : from utilization to a randomized controlled trial

    Författare :Kathrin Wode; Per Fransson; Roger Henriksson; Lena Sharp; Johanna Hök Nordberg; Vinjar Magne Fønnebø; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; epidemiology; evidence-based medicine; neoplasms; pancreatic neoplasms; adult; integrative oncology; complementary therapies; treatment refusal; communication; physician-patient relations; mistletoe; palliative care; quality of life; cross-sectional studies; qualitative research; randomized controlled trial; Sweden; Europe; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) are non-conventional health care approaches used in parallel with or instead of conventional medicine. Little is known about Swedish patients’ patterns of complementary CAM use in the context of cancer. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Erythropoietin receptor in growth control and anti-estrogen resistance of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer

    Författare :Susann Reinbothe; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tamoxifen resistance; proliferation; PI3k pathway; Breast cancer; erythropoietin receptor; estrogen receptor;

    Sammanfattning : The main function of Erythropoietin (EPO) and its receptor (EPOR) is the stimulation of erythropoiesis. Therefore, recombinant human EPO (rhEPO) is used to treat anemia in cancer patients, but some studies have reported that rhEPO treatment might promote tumor progression. Additionally, EPOR expression has been detected in various cancer forms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Repurposing digitoxin in the treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma : genotypic and phenotypic features as biomarkers for digitoxin sensitivity in vitro

    Författare :Heléne Lindholm; Katarina Ejeskär; Ferenc Szekeres; Maria Faresjö; Sofie Mohlin; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; Na K -ATPase; digitoxin; cardiac glycoside; metabolomics; choline; Translationell medicin TRIM; Translational Medicine TRIM;

    Sammanfattning : The incidence of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is increasing worldwide. The dismal prognosis and lack of effective treatments urges for increased research efforts in developing new treatment regimens. Since the development of new cancer treatments are expensive and time consuming, repurposing drugs is preferable when possible. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Notch Signaling in Neuroblastoma and Renal Cell Carcinoma

    Författare :Jonas Sjölund; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; differentiation; clear cell renal cell carcinoma; neuroblastoma; TGF-beta; migration; γ-secretase; valproic acid; cancer; Notch; ERK; von Hippel-Lindau; hypoxia;

    Sammanfattning : The Notch signaling pathway governs cell functions essential for normal development and organogenesis. Aberrant Notch signaling has been implicated in tumorigenesis by perturbing control of proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, migration and angiogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular mechanisms underlying morphological effects of protein kinase C under normal conditions and cellular stress

    Författare :Lovisa Sunesson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuroblastoma; amytrophic lateral sclerosis; PABPC1; IGF2BP3; G3BP2; peripherin; C1 domain; protein-protein-interactions; Protein kinase C; neurite outgrowth;

    Sammanfattning : The protein kinase C (PKC) family of serine/threonine kinases consists of 10-15 members. The PKC isoforms have central roles in many essential cellular processes, including proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, cytoskeletal changes, and migration. LÄS MER
