  1. 11. Prognostic Biomarkers and Target Proteins for Treatment of High-grade Gliomas

    Författare :Linda Sooman; Simon Ekman; Johan Lennartsson; Joachim Gullbo; Michael Bergqvist; Erik Blomquist; Stefan Bergström; Beatrice Melin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; High-grade glioma; prognostic biomarkers; combination chemotherapy; DNA methylation; FGF2; p38 MAPK; PTPN6; camptothecin; imatinib; vandetanib; EGFR; RAC1; Notch; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The survival for high-grade glioma patients is poor and the treatment may cause severe side effects. A common obstacle in the treatment is chemoresistance. To improve the quality of life and prolong survival for these patients prognostic biomarkers and new approaches for chemotherapy are needed. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Mechanisms for TGF-β-Mediated Regulation of the Actin Filament System and Apoptosis

    Författare :Sofia Edlund; Pontus Aspenström; Maréne Landström; Tommy Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; TGF-beta; cytoskeleton; GTPases; mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 3; TGF-beta-activated kinase 1; Apoptosis; Smad7; beta-catenin; p38 MAPK; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is a member of a large superfamily of cytokines which participate in many different types of cellular processes, such as growth inhibition, cell migration, differentiation, cell adhesion, wound healing and immunosuppression. Alterations of TGF-β superfamily signalling results in several different disorders, including bone disease, vascular disease and cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The mechanism of HAMLET-induced cell death - cellular signalling, oncogenes and clinical perspectives

    Författare :Petter Storm; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HAMLET; cancer; cell death; c-Myc; glycolysis; hexokinase; ion channels; p38 MAPK; lipids; colon cancer; beta-catenin;

    Sammanfattning : Despite recent advances in cancer treatment, truly innovative approaches are required to move beyond the modest benefits achieved to date. HAMLET is a human protein-lipid complex originally discovered in breast milk able to kill a wide range of tumour cells while leaving healthy, differentiated cells unaffected. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Microbial and maternal influences on allergic sensitization during childhood: defining a role for monocytes

    Författare :Shanie Saghafian Hedengren; Eva Sverremark-Ekström; Susan Prescott; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Monocytes; allergic sensitization; maternal allergy; Toll-like receptor; p38-MAPK; IL-6; Epstein-Barr virus; early-life microbial exposure; NK cells; IFN-γ; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic diseases are influenced by genetics and the environment. Maternal allergy appears to confer a higher risk for allergic sensitization than paternal allergy, suggesting an in utero influence. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Inhibition of WNT5A Signaling and Function in Malignant Melanoma

    Författare :Rickard Linnskog; Malmö Experimentell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; WNT5A; Malignant Melanoma; Migration; Invasion; TGFβ; IL-6; p38-MAPK;

    Sammanfattning : The life-threatening disease of malignant melanoma is one of the fastest growing forms of cancer, affecting an estimated number of 200,000 patients worldwide every year. Although highly curable if detected early, once the melanoma has metastasized there are few treatment options and a median survival rate of only 6-9 months. LÄS MER
