    Sammanfattning : The main stimulus for insulin secretion is elevated blood glucose levels. In this thesis the aim was to study less well-known systems involved in the complex regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin release, emphasizing the role of the lysosomal/vacuolar system and the associated glycogenolytic acid alpha-glucoside hydrolases, but also the HO-CO and NOS-NO systems.     Sammanfattning : Studies were conducted to investigate the role of macula densa (MD)-derived nitric oxide (NO) in regulation of the glomerular filtration (GFR) through the tubuloglomerular feedback (TGF) mechanism. Immunocytochemical localization of the neuronal isoform of NO synthase (NOS) in the kidney showed that this isoform was exclusively located in MD cells. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide reductase (NOR) from Paracoccus denitrificans catalyzes the two electronreduction of NO to N2O (2NO + 2H+ + 2e- → N2O + H2O) as part of the process ofdenitrification, the step-wise reduction of nitrate to dinitogen.     Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. LÄS MER
