36. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 37. Endothelin and nitric oxide in the fetoplacental circulation
Sammanfattning : Background: Normal fetal growth and development depend on a satisfactory uteroplacental and fetoplacental blood flow. This will ensure an adequate gaseous exchange and nutritional supply to the fetus. LÄS MER
38. On the role of nitric oxide in uterine secretion
Sammanfattning : Background: Uterine secretion is important in many different aspects of reproduction e.g. sperm transport and survival, fertilization, nourishment of the ovum and implantation. A cholinergic autonomic nervous secretory innervation has been established and modulation of the secretion by prostaglandins and NSAID drugs has been postulated. LÄS MER
39. Nitric oxide, formation and effects in the urogenital tract
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to study the formation and effects of nitric oxide (NO) in the human urinary tract and in the male reproductive organs. In the human upper and lower urinary tract NO synthase activity was studied via the formation of radiolabeled L-citrulline from L-arginine. LÄS MER
40. Studies on production and function of pulmonary nitric oxide
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide is involved in pulmonary vascular and bronchial regulation and appears to be of paramount importance in the adaptation of the pulmonary circulation at birth. Nitric oxide is present in exhaled gas. LÄS MER
