  1. 1. Electron and Proton Transfer in Nitric Oxide Reductase : NO Binding, NO Reduction and no Pumping

    Författare :Peter Lachmann; Pia Ädelroth; Peter Brzezinski; Fahmi Himo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Flow-Flash; Nitric Oxide Reductase; Heme Copper Oxidase;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide reductase (NOR) from Paracoccus denitrificans catalyzes the two electronreduction of NO to N2O (2NO + 2H+ + 2e- → N2O + H2O) as part of the process ofdenitrification, the step-wise reduction of nitrate to dinitogen. The NOR-catalyzedreaction is central in the nitrogen cycle, since in this step the N=N double bond isformed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Active Transport of Ions across Biomembranes : A Kinetic Study of Cytochrome c Oxidase Reconstituted into Phospholipid Vesicles

    Författare :Kristina Faxén; Peter Brzezinski; Pia Ädelroth; Thomas E. DeCoursey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; electron transfer; proton transfer; proton pumping; kinetic isotop effect; ion pumping; flow flash; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Ion transport across membranes is of uttermost importance for us. It is the foundation for signaling of various kinds e.g. in the nerve-system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Proton transfer across and along biological membranes

    Författare :Johan Berg; Peter Brzezinski; Artur Osyczka; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biological membranes; cardiolipin; cytochrome bo3; cytochrome c oxidase; energy conversion; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy FCS ; localized coupling; mitochondria; proton transfer; Rcf1; respiration; single-enzyme measurement; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proton-transfer reactions belong to the most prevalent reactions in the biosphere and make life on Earth possible, as they are central to energy conversion. In most known organisms, protons are translocated from one side of a membrane to the other, which generates an electrochemical gradient that drives ATP synthesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of proton-coupled electron transfer in cytochrome c oxidase : The role of membrane potential, proton pathways and ATP

    Författare :Markus Björck; Peter Brzezinski; Thorsten Friedrich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; charge transfer; membrane potential; membrane protein; mitochondria; ATP; proton pump; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase (CytcO) is the final electron acceptor of the respiratory chain. In this chain a current of electrons, derived from degradation of nutrients, along with protons, are used to reduce oxygen to water. The reaction is exergonic and the excess energy is used to pump protons across the membrane. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structure and Function of Cytochrome c Oxidase

    Författare :Gisela Brändén; Peter Brzezinski; Mårten Wikström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; proton pumping; proton transfer; electron transfer; X-ray crystallography; flow flash; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Aerobic organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans, obtain their energy through the process of respiration. Electrons from the breakdown of food are transported through the membrane-bound enzyme complexes of the respiratory chain, to the terminal acceptor molecule, oxygen. LÄS MER
