  1. 1. Peripheral nerve reconstruction. Studies on cellular and acellular iso-, allo- and xenografts

    Författare :Martin Kvist; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acellular nerve graft; costimulation blockade; FK506; immunosuppression; nerve graft; nerve defect; nerve regeneration; nerve injury; nerve extraction; allograft; xenograft;

    Sammanfattning : The best results after a nerve injury with a defect are achieved by a nerve reconstruction procedure using autologous nerve grafts. However, limitations include insufficient amount of suitable donor material and donor site morbidity. The aim of the present thesis was to study alternative nerve grafts, i.e. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cell activation and nerve regeneration following peripheral nerve injury

    Författare :Annika Widerberg; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; nerve regeneration; Nerve injury; conditioning lesion; nerve graft; tourniquet compression; vibration; DRG; Schwann cell; p75; CPON; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of short time vibration exposure and tourniquet compression on nerve regeneration in rats was studied with special reference to cell activation. One of the hindlimbs was conditioned by either vibration exposure (5 hours / day - 5 consecutive days) or compression (150-300 mmHg for 30-120 minutes), which was followed by a recovery period of 0-7 days. 3. 3. Repair and Reconstruction of Peripheral Nerve Injuries. Treatment with G-CSF and Stromal Vascular Fraction

    Författare :Hanna Frost; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peripheral nerve injuries; nerve regeneration; reconstructive surgical procedures; diabetes mellitus; rat sciatic nerve; granulocyte colony-stimulating factor; stromal vascular fraction; electrospinning; rats; Schwann cells;

    Sammanfattning : While surgery is a cornerstone in treatment of peripheral nerve injuries, it is not a comprehensive approach, and outcome is unsatisfactory, especially sensory function. The present aim was to translate recent findings about stem- and progenitor cells to improve regenerative outcome, where the cells have to be autologous, available within the same surgical procedure, and minimally manipulated. 4. 4. End-to-side nerve repair - A study in the forelimb of the rat

    Författare :Eleana Bontioti; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nerve regeneration; Kirurgi; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Retrograde labelling; ATF3; Collateral sprouting; ortopedi; traumatologi; Nerve injury;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve injuries have a profound impact on individuals, suffering for the patients and induce cost for society. When dealing with severe nerve injuries that create a gap between nerve segments or when the injury is at the brachial plexus level, the clinical alternatives are limited. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

    Författare :Mariann Sondell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwann cell; SCG; rat; peripheral nerve regeneration; neuropilin-1; nerve repair; mouse; growth factor; flk-1; axonal outgrowth; DRG; VEGF; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its possible role as a neurotrophic factor. I have investigated the effect of VEGF on neurons in culture but also in vivo, following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve, and following nerve repair. LÄS MER
