1. RUNX1/AML1 functions and mechanisms regulating granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor transcription
Sammanfattning : Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a multipotent cytokine involved in the production and function of hematopoietic cells, and GM-CSF plays in particular a major role in responses to infection and physiological and pathological inflammatory processes. GM-CSF is produced in many cell types, and increases in the intracellular Ca2+ concentration are, like in many other systems, of major importance in the intracellular signaling that determines GM-CSF expression after receptor stimulation of the cells. 2. Repair and Reconstruction of Peripheral Nerve Injuries. Treatment with G-CSF and Stromal Vascular Fraction
Sammanfattning : While surgery is a cornerstone in treatment of peripheral nerve injuries, it is not a comprehensive approach, and outcome is unsatisfactory, especially sensory function. The present aim was to translate recent findings about stem- and progenitor cells to improve regenerative outcome, where the cells have to be autologous, available within the same surgical procedure, and minimally manipulated. 3. Transforming growth factor a in human hematopoietic cells
Sammanfattning : TGF-a, transforming growth factor a, is a potent growth factor belonging to the family of EGF (epidermal growth factor) -related proteins. Binding to the same receptor as EGF it has a ubiquitous repertoire of target cells, including, mesenchymal, epithelial and neuronal cells. LÄS MER
4. Cervical ripening : an inflammatory process involving cytokines, metalloproteinases and foetal fibronectin
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to identify cytokines, metalloproteinases and foetal fibronectin in human cervical tissue and to investigate if changes are of importance for the final cervical ripening. The human cervical ripening is a prerequisite for a normal start and progress of labour. LÄS MER
5. Kostmann syndrome : a clinical and pathophysiological study
Sammanfattning : Kostmann syndrome or severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) is a rare disease, usually diagnosed during the first months of life, characterized by extremely low levels of neutrophils in the peripheral blood, a maturational arrest of the myelopoiesis in the bone marrow and severe bacterial infections. The purpose of this project was to improve the understanding of the clinical course and the pathophysiology of autosomal recessive SCN. LÄS MER
