  1. 1. Sutures bridging nerve defects

    Författare :Peter Scherman; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Surgery; continuous longitudinal sutures; nerve repair; nerve regeneration; nerve defect; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : A new and simple method for the repair of nerve defects, in which sutures alone are used to guide regeneration between the nerve endings, was developed. Bilateral seven to 17 mm rat sciatic nerve defects were bridged by continuous longitudinal sutures with or without different modifications, by conventional autologous nerve grafts or direct repair under tension as controls. 2. 2. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

    Författare :Mariann Sondell; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwann cell; SCG; rat; peripheral nerve regeneration; neuropilin-1; nerve repair; mouse; growth factor; flk-1; axonal outgrowth; DRG; VEGF; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its possible role as a neurotrophic factor. I have investigated the effect of VEGF on neurons in culture but also in vivo, following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve, and following nerve repair. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Repair and Reconstruction of Peripheral Nerve Injuries. Treatment with G-CSF and Stromal Vascular Fraction

    Författare :Hanna Frost; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peripheral nerve injuries; nerve regeneration; reconstructive surgical procedures; diabetes mellitus; rat sciatic nerve; granulocyte colony-stimulating factor; stromal vascular fraction; electrospinning; rats; Schwann cells;

    Sammanfattning : While surgery is a cornerstone in treatment of peripheral nerve injuries, it is not a comprehensive approach, and outcome is unsatisfactory, especially sensory function. The present aim was to translate recent findings about stem- and progenitor cells to improve regenerative outcome, where the cells have to be autologous, available within the same surgical procedure, and minimally manipulated. 4. 4. Tendon autografts for bridging nerve defects

    Författare :Jerker Brandt; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; cell culture; graft; rat; collagen; tendon; Schwann cells; axons; Peripheral nerve regeneration; axonal outgrowth; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : A new method, where a tendon segment – a tendon autograft – was used as graft material for peripheral nerve reconstruction, was developed. Defects, 10-15 mm long, in rat sciatic nerves were bridged by various modifications of tendons. LÄS MER

  5. 5. PACAP and orphanin FQ/nociceptin -Distribution, importance and regulation in sensory neurons and spinal cord

    Författare :Lina Pettersson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; trk; spinal cord; sensory neuron; rat; PAC1; PACAP; ORL1; OFQ N; neurotrophin; neuropeptide; nerve transection; nerve compression; inflammatory pain; BDNF; DRG;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide expression in the nervous system is abundant and plastic, and an altered expression after injury is an example of a functional response, helping the neuron to cope with adverse changes, and involves effects on differentiation, synthesis, repair/regeneration, survival, and modulation of signal transmission. I have investigated the distribution/expression of the neuropeptides, orphanin FQ/nociceptin (OFQ/N) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP), under normal conditions, in response to nerve injuries, and also studied sensory responses in mice deficient for the PAC1 receptor (PAC1-/-).
