  1. 6. Surface and Bulk Reactivity of Iron Oxyhydroxides : A Molecular Perspective

    Författare :Xiaowei Song; Jean-François Boily; Glenn Waychunas; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Iron oxyhydroxide; adsorption; water; carbon dioxide; FTIR; molecular resolution;

    Sammanfattning : Iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) mineral plays an important role in a variety of atmospheric, terrestrial and technological settings. Molecular resolution of reactions involving these minerals is thereby required to develop a fundamental understanding of their contributions in processes taking place in the atmosphere, Earth’s upper crust as well as the hydrosphere. Sammanfattning : Living matter is built on complex dynamic systems consisting of numerus biotransformations. By exploiting the adaptive and evolutive behaviors ofmolecular matter, dynamic chemistry has developed as an important tool tounderstand the organization of nonliving matter into complex living systems. 3. 8. Monitoring Proton Exchange and Triplet States with Fluorescence

    Författare :Tor Sandén; Jerker Widengren; Vogel Horst; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; proton transfer; cytochrome c oxidase; transient state imaging; modulated excitation; Optics; Optik; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Fluorescent molecules commonly shift to transient dark states, induced bylight or triggered by chemical reactions. The transient dark states can beused as probes of the local environment surrounding the fluorescent molecules,and are therefore attractive for use in biomolecular applications. LÄS MER

  4. 9. DNA strand exchange and hydrophobic interactions between biomolecules

    Författare :Bobo Feng; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATP synthase; DNA; membrane proteins; linear dichroism; Hydrophobic interactions; self-assembly; strand exchange; nanotechnology; liposomes;

    Sammanfattning : The role of hydrophobic interactions in DNA strand exchange has been studied using fluorescence-labeled DNA oligomers in a FRET assay. Strand exchange was found to be accelerated in the presence of polyethylene glycol, which provides a crowded and hydrophobic environment possibly mimicking that of the catalytically active recombinase-DNA complexes. 5. 10. Controlling protein homeostasis through regulation of Heat shock factor 1

    Författare :Anna E. Masser; Claes Andréasson; Marie Öhman; David Pincus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stress; protein homeostasis; molecular chaperones; heat shock response; Hsf1; Hsp70; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : In order to thrive in a changing environment all organisms need to ensure protein homeostasis (proteostasis). Proteostasis is ensured by the proteostasis system that monitors the folding status of the proteome and regulates cell physiology and gene expression to counteract any perturbations. LÄS MER
