6. Development and Applications of in vitro Models to Study Human Brain Evolution and Disease
Sammanfattning : Neuroscience focusing on human development and disease has long been hampered due to ethical reasons, low tissue availability, and low translatability from animal models. To circumvent these obstacles, we have developed two methods for the investigation of human neural cells in culture. LÄS MER
7. Restoring antitumor immunity with dendritic cell reprogramming strategies. Reprogramming cancer cells to antigen-presenting cells
Sammanfattning : For the past two decades, immunotherapy revolutionized cancer treatment. However, responses vary significantly among eligible patients and some cancer types are not yet open to immunotherapy. Several mechanisms contribute to immunotherapy resistance, including loss of antigen presentation machinery and immunosuppression. LÄS MER
8. Regulatory properties of dendritic cells and B cells in adaptive immunity
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based upon four original papers in which human dendritic cells (DCs) and B cells have been analyzed in terms of how they influence the character of adaptive immune responses. DCs isolated from human tonsils were found to possess a capacity to directly regulate proliferation, isotype switching, and antibody production in B cells. LÄS MER
9. Generating GABAergic interneurons through reprogramming and differentiation strategies : English
Sammanfattning : In recent years reprogramming techniques, differentiation protocols, and sequencing analysis have opened a field for generating and studying human-derived neurons with greater potential than ever before. This has generated a large number of studies with the goal of deriving bona fide neurons. LÄS MER
10. Neural Stem Cells - interaction with the brain and prospects for cell replacement therapy for Stroke
Sammanfattning : Stroke is an acute neurological condition and the leading cause of disability in adult humans. Treatments for efficient recovery are not available. The most common form of stroke results from the occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, which causes loss of brain parenchyma and many types of neurons as well as astrocytes and oligodendrocytes.
