  1. 6. Properties of solid wood : responses to drying and heat treatment

    Författare :Margot Sehlstedt-Persson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood Physics; Träfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The hygro-thermal processes that wood is exposed to during drying and heat treatment lead to different reactions or responses in the wood material. The objective of this thesis has been to study the impact of different drying and heat-treatment strategies on various responses, such as strength, sorption/desorption behaviour, dimensional stability and colour changes. 2. 7. Retrogradation Properties of Starch

    Författare :José Silverio; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; surfactants; lipids; degree of polymerization DP ; isothermal microcalorimetry; differential scanning calorimetry DSC ; crystallinity; amylose; amylopectin; gelatinization; starch; retrogradation; temperature cycling; PCA; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to examine various factors influencing starch retrogradation. The reassociation events of starch, which are closely linked to the staling of bakery products, were mainly studied by thermal analysis. Some aspects of starch gelatinization are also included. 3. 8. Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Properties of Nonionic Surfactant Membranes

    Författare :Thao Le; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lamellar; multilamellar vesicle; small-angle x-ray scattering SAXS ; small-angle neutron scattering SANS ; static light scattering SLS ; joule heating temperature jump JHTJ ; dynamic light scattering DLS ; Nonionic surfactants; sponge; elastic curvature energy; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation of the multilamellar vesicles (La*), lamellar (La), and multiply connected sponge (L3) phase formed in surfactant systems is presented in this thesis. These membrane structures were studied using surfactant systems containing poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ethers, n-CnH2n+1(OCH2CH2) mOH, commonly abbreviated as CnEm. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Affinity; Aromatic amino acids; Binding; Biomembrane; Biotin; Chromatography; Cytochalasin B; Dihydrocytochalasin B; Dissociation constant; Drug absorption; Ethanol; Equilibrium; Glucose; GLUT1; Immobilization; Immobilized biomembrane affinity chromatography; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Interaction; Liposome; Membrane protein; Membrane vesicle; Partitioning; Phospholipid bilayer; Proteoliposome; Quantitative; Red blood cell; Specific; Streptavidin; Tyrosine; Tryptophan; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods.
