  1. 1. Facets of chemical bonding that enhance or encumber conceptual understanding

    Författare :Anders Nimmermark; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; student surveys; chemical bonding; secondary school; tertiary education; coordination chemistry; conceptual understanding;

    Sammanfattning : Chemical bonding is a vast subject, rich in abstract concepts and advanced and less-advanced explanatory models that the learner has to master. In this context, the teaching of chemical bonding at the secondary school level is extremely important, as it has the potential to increase or hinder students’ further understanding of bonding. 2. 2. Redox models in chemistry : A depiction of the conceptions held by secondary school students of redox reactions

    Författare :Lise-Lotte Österlund; Margareta Ekborg; Anders Berg; Christiane Funk; Astrid Bulte; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; science education; redox reaction; model; inorganic chemistry; organic chemistry; biochemistry; students conceptions; textbook; Other chemistry; Övrig kemi; didactics of chemistry; kemididaktik;

    Sammanfattning : According to previous research, students show difficulties in learning redox reactions. By the historical development different redox models exist to explain redox reactions, the oxygen model, the hydrogen model, the electron model and the oxidation number model. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Chemistry: content, context and choices : towards students' higher order problem solving in upper secondary school

    Författare :Karolina Broman; Eva Silfver; Dan Johnels; Judith Bennett; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; chemistry education; upper secondary students; meaningful learning; higher order thinking; problem solving; context-based learning; interest; educational choice; identity; kemididaktik; didactics of chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Chemistry is often claimed to be difficult, irrelevant, and uninteresting to school students. Even students who enjoy doing science often have problems seeing themselves as being scientists. This thesis explores and challenges the negative perception of chemistry by investigating upper secondary students’ views on the subject. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sharing lived experience : How upper secondary school chemistry teachers and students use narratives to make chemistry more meaningful

    Författare :Agneta Boström; Per Olof Wickman; Russell Tytler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; cognition; Dewey; knowledge emphases; learning; meaning-making; narrative; narrative inquiry; pedagogical content knowledge; post-modernity; pragmatism; science education; teaching; the content of science; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation concerns the place of teachers’ and students’ narratives in making school chemistry more meaningful to students. The material was collected at upper secondary school courses and consists of interviews with six experienced chemistry teachers, five adult students attending evening classes and six younger students. 5. 5. Relationships between models used for teaching chemistry and those expressed by students

    Författare :Karina Adbo; Susanne Wikman; Shu-Nu Chang-Rundgren; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; chemistry didactics; particulate nature of matter; phase transition; student expressed models; Swedish school; teaching models; Science Education; Naturvetenskap med utbildningsvetenskaplig inriktning; Science Education; Naturvetenskap med utbildningsvetenskaplig inriktning;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused upon chemistry as a school subject and students' interpretations and use of formally introduced teaching models. To explore students' developing repertoire of chemical models, a longitudinal interview study was undertaken spanning the first year of upper secondary school chemistry. LÄS MER
