  1. 11. Micromechanical Modelling of Wood and Fibre Properties

    Författare :Kent Persson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; Microfibril angle; Density; Hygroexpansion; Stiffness; Simulation; Wood; Fibre; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Wood is a material with mechanical properties that vary markedly, both within a tree and among trees. Moisture changes lead to shrinkage or swelling and modify the mechanical properties. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Improved harvesting technology for thinning of small diameter stands : impact on forest management and national supply of forest biomass

    Författare :Lars Sängstuvall; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Forest biomass is used as feedstock for forest products as well as for bioenergy. The current Swedish roundwood utilization is near the sustainable maximum. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the topic of grounding in human-robot interaction, that is, the process by which the human and robot can ensure mutual understanding. To explore this topic, the scenario of a robot holding a presentation to a human audience is used, where the robot has to process multimodal feedback from the human in order to adapt the presentation to the human's level of understanding. 4. 14. Keep it rolling : Straight-line orientation in South African ball-rolling dung beetles

    Författare :Lana Khaldy; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ball-rolling dung beetle; Orientation; Heading direction network; Compass; Weighting; Celestial cues; Sun; Polarised light;

    Sammanfattning : Representing a substantial range and variety in morphological and ecological niche, found on all continents of the globe (except for the Antarctic), the ball-rolling dung beetles provide an excellent model in which to study the heading direction network and the factors by which it is influenced. As soon as a ball-rolling dung beetle has located a fresh dung pile to feed on, it immediately starts shaping a piece of dung into a ball, rolling it away from the dung pat in as straight of a trajectory as the terrain allows. 5. 15. Towards Better Urban Spaces in Harmony with Microclimate: Urban design and planning regulations in hot dry Damascus, Syria

    Författare :Moohammed Wasim Yahia; Boende och bostadsutveckling; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Architecture; Arid zones; Built environment; Climate; Climatic design; Damascus; Hot dry regions; Landscape elements; Microclimate; Planning regulations; Thermal comfort; Thermal indices; Urban climate; Urban design; Urban planning;

    Sammanfattning : This research is an attempt to develop further understanding of the relationship between microclimate, thermal comfort, urban design and outdoor space users in the hot dry city of Damascus. This is done by studying the impact of urban regulations on microclimate in different urban design patterns in Damascus. LÄS MER
