  1. 6. Chromosomal Instability and Genomic Amplification in Bone and Soft Tissue Tumours

    Författare :David Gisselsson Nord; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nuclear atypia; kinetochore; anaphase bridge; p53; breakage-fusion-bridge cycle; TP53; HMGIC; MDM2; mitotic instability; genomic instability; FISH; osteosarcoma; liposarcoma; amplification; tumour; chromosome; cytogenetics; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Acquired genetic abnormalities are found in all types of malignant tumours and may contribute to neoplastic processes by altering protein structure or dosage. Many bone and soft tissue tumours (BSTT) are characterised by complex patterns of chromosome changes, including extensive intratumour heterogeneity and amplification of DNA sequences. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth

    Författare :Lars Björklund; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiration; Artificial; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Respiratory Function Tests; Pulmonary Surfactants; Newborn; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Infant; Premature; Animals;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout. 3. 8. Epidemiological aspects of tuberculosis in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa

    Författare :Per Gustafson; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tuberculin skin test; Infections; Infektioner; survival; mortality; case fatality rate; risk factor; incidence; Guinea-Bissau; Africa; epidemiology; Mycobacterium tuberculosis; HIV-2; HIV-1; HIV; Tbc; Tuberculosis; TB;

    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis (TB) has plagued the humanity for several thousands of years. The bacteria causing TB is mainly spread from person to person as an aerosol transmission. It is estimated that one third of the world’s population is infected with the disease; about 10% of these will develop active TB during their lifetime. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Mitochondrial function in sepsis - Temporal evolvement of respiratory capacity in human blood cells

    Författare :Fredrik Sjövall; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; sepsis; severe sepsis; septic shock; platelets; mitochondria; OXPHOS; high-resolution respirometry; mitochondrial disorders; multiple organ failure; biogenesis; leukocytes; cytokines; respirometry; oxygen consumption; blood cells; temporal;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a devastating disease that is caused by the host’s response to an overwhelming infectious process. As sepsis progresses, organs distant from the site of infection become affected and sepsis-induced multiple organ failure ensues. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Self-Assembly in Lipid-Protein Systems : Lung Surfactant, Stratum Corneum and Model Membranes

    Författare :Jenny Andersson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lipid self-assembly; lung surfactant; stratum corneum; dehydrin; cholesterol; osmolytes; urea; TMAO; ssNMR; cSAXS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores lipid self-assembly and aims to give a broad picture of self-assembly structures in simple and complex lipid-protein systems. The systems studied are lung surfactant, stratum corneum and simple model membranes. The lung surfactant mixture lines the alveolus in our lungs and stabilises the air- tissue interface. LÄS MER
