11. Protein-Polymer Interaction and Association in Aqueous Solution
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to study protein-polymer interaction and association. Two different techniques were used; Monte Carlo simulations were combined with partitioning in polymeric aqueous two-phase systems. Monte Carlo simulations have been used to evaluate the hydrophobic interaction in electrolyte solution. LÄS MER
12. Influence of Escherichia coli feedstock properties on the performance of primary protein purification
Sammanfattning : Abstract The aim of the present study was to increase the understanding of how the cell surface properties affect the performance of unit operations used in primary protein purification. In particular, the purpose was to develop, set up and apply methods for studies of cell surface properties and cell interactions. LÄS MER
13. Surface Properties of Antibodies and their Complexes with Antigens Studied by LLPC
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to gain further insight into the relationship between the exposed surfaces and the functional properties of antibodies and their complexes with antigens in solution. To study this relationship, a new technique, liquid-liquid partition chromatography (LLPC) in aqueous two-phase systems, was developed further with respect to sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility. 14. Asexual embryogenesis in plants
Sammanfattning : The capacity of somatic cells and pollen grains or microspores to undergo embryogenesis is an important property used in improvement and regeneration of plants. Furthermore, somatic embryogenesis as well as pollen embryogenesis show many similarities with zygotic embryogenesis and are, thus, good model systems. LÄS MER
15. Macromolecular interactions, Consequences on carbohydrate metabolism
Sammanfattning : Most cells are crowded with solutes, enzymes, nucleic acids, structural proteins and membranes. Crowding promotes macromolecular interactions and determines major properties of the cellular environment such as viscosity, diffusion and inhomogeneity. LÄS MER
