Anatomy and taxonomy of cetrarioid lichens
Sammanfattning : The anatomy of the cetrarioid lichens (Parmeliaceae) has been studied, and the taxonomy revised. Special attention has been paid to reproductive structures, in particular the asci and pycnoconidia. Two types of asci are recognized. The Cetraria type is narrowly clavate, bears an amyloid ring structure in the tholus, and has a small axial body. LÄS MER
3. Effects of increased UV-B radiation on the lichen Cladonia arbuscula spp. mitis: UV-absorbing pigments and DNA damage
Sammanfattning : Lichens, a form of symbiosis between a fungal and a photosynthetic partner, are believed to be a group that evolved early in the history of terrestrial life. As a consequence, they probably experienced higher ultraviolet (UV) radiation fluxes than at present. LÄS MER
4. Patterns of geographic variation in Silene section Elisanthe (Caryophyllaceae): hybridization and migrational history
Sammanfattning : Large-scale patterns of genetic variation in chloroplast (cp) and nuclear DNA in the widespread European herb species Silene latifolia and S. dioica were investigated using cpPCR-RFLPs, non-coding cpDNA sequences, AFLPs and sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA). 5. Diversity and phylogeography in Alisma (Alismataceae), with emphasis on Northern European taxa
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis the phylogeny and patterns of genetic diversity of the plant genus Alisma (Alismataceae) were investigated by means of genetic markers (RAPDs, allozymes, and ITS and trnL sequences). Additionally, morphological studies were carried out in paper IV. LÄS MER
