  1. 6. Exploring the Grey Zone between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Ekaterine Bakhtadze; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : T1D is most common in children and young adults and is characterized by autoimmune destruction of insulin producing pancreatic beta cells, presence of certain risk genotypes such as HLA-DQB1, INS VNTR, PTPN22 and need of insulin for survival. In adults the same situation is often referred to as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), with age at onset after 35 years and non-insulin requiring at least for 6 month after diagnosis. Sammanfattning : Celiac disease is a prevalent small bowel disease in children caused by permanent intolerance against gliadin, which is the alcohol-soluble fraction of the cereal protein gluten in wheat, rye and barley. Celiac disease is characterized by an inflammatory infiltrate of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the intestinal mucosa leading to damage of villous structure and loss of absorptive surface. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Studies of bacterial surface proteins interacting with the immune system

    Författare :Henrik G Svensson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []

    Sammanfattning : Pathogenic bacteria express a wide array of surface proteins that interact with the environment. Many of these proteins are believed to be important for the virulence. This thesis deals with the binding of immunoglobulins (Ig) and complement regulating proteins to certain bacterial surface proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Calcium-dependent Affinity Domains for the Purification of Antibodies and Antibody Fragments

    Författare :Julia Scheffel; Sophia Hober; Alois Jungbauer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Antibodies; Antibody fragments; Biomanufacturing; Protein purification; Protein engineering; Protein A; ZCa; Calcium; Mild elution; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Antibodies are essential proteins in both our bodies and biotechnological research, and hold outstanding therapeutic value. The market for antibody-based therapeutics has grown exponentially during the last decades, owing to several advantages over small molecule drugs, such as fewer undesirable side effects associated with a higher target specificity. 5. 10. Gestational Islet Autoimmunity, Infections, and Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Maria Elfving; Lund Pediatrik; []

    Sammanfattning : The intention of this thesis was to investigate autoimmune markers for type 1 diabetes, together with signs of enterovirus infections during the pre- and perinatal period of life, and their possible association with the development of diabetes during childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. We found that: 1. LÄS MER
