  1. 1. Genetic Determinants of Dyslipidemia

    Författare :Tibor V Varga; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetic epidemiology; Genetic polymorphism; dyslipidaemia; Cholesterol; Triglyceride; Genetic risk; genetic risk score; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Prediction; Gene-environment interactions; Randomized controlled trial; prospective cohort studies; Observational study; GLACIER Study; Diabetes Prevention Program;

    Sammanfattning : Dyslipidemia is a chronic deviation from normal blood lipid levels that can lead to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases; dyslipidemia and its sequelae are caused by the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Although circulating concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have a strong genetic underpinning, not much is known about the genetic factors that affect long-term deteriorations in lipid concentrations. 2. 2. Epigenic regulation and posttranslational modification of human cytochrome P450s : focus on CYP2W1, CYP1A2 and CYP2C18

    Författare :Alvin V Gomez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The cytochrome P450 superfamily represents a very important group of enzymes that are responsible for the metabolism of drugs as well as of endogenous compounds. Many P450s are genetically polymorphic causing important interindividual variability in P450 expression and activity whereas in some cases the basis for interindividual variation has still not been resolved. 3. 3. Mechanisms of intestinal tumor initiation and progression in ApcMin mouse model of colorectal cancer

    Författare :Zhiyuan V. Zou; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; ApcMin mouse;

    Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a cancer that occurs in the colon or rectum and is one of the most common cancer forms and a leading cause of cancer death in the Western world. The majority of CRCs are caused by inherited or somatic mutations in the APC gene. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Unraveling the role of NOTCH3 dysfunction in disease and for therapy development : a focus on CADASIL

    Författare :Daniel V Oliveira; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The Notch signaling pathway, including the Notch3 receptor, is involved in many pivotal contexts of cell signaling and cell fate determination processes during development and in adulthood. Different mutations in the NOTCH3 receptor, which is highly expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC), are associated with various diseases, including developmental disorders, several forms of cancer, and vascular dementia. 5. 5. Characterization and Evolution of Transmembrane Proteins with Focus on G-protein coupled receptors in Pre-vertebrate Species

    Författare :Karl J. V. Nordström; Helgi B. Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Teresa Attwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; G protein-coupled receptors; GPCR; Membrane protein; Rhodopsin; Adhesion; Secretin; Evolution; Bioinformatics; Phylogeny; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution;

    Sammanfattning : G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are one of the largest protein families in mammals. GPCRs are instrumental for hormonal and neurotransmitter signalling and are important in all major physiological systems of the body. LÄS MER
