  1. 1. Prevention of type 2 diabetes : modeling the cost-effectiveness of diabetes prevention

    Författare :Anne Neumann; Lars Lindholm; Katarina Steen Carlsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; type 2 diabetes mellitus; prevention; health economics; Markov modeling; risk equations; health-related quality of life; lifestyle modification; pre-diabetic states; cost-effectiveness; Västerbotten Intervention Programme;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Diabetes is a common and costly disease that is expected to continue even to grow in prevalence and health expenditures over the coming decades. Type 2 diabetes is the most common diabetes type and is characterized by insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modeling the economics of prevention

    Författare :Peter Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiovascular disease; diabetes mellitus; prevention; health economics;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease, particularly coronary heart disease and stroke, is the most common cause of death world wide, with a prevalence that is expected to increase. The consequences of the modern lifestyle such as obesity and physical inactivity are also associated with the risk of developing diabetes, another risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease. 3. 3. Genetic Determinants of Dyslipidemia

    Författare :Tibor V Varga; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetic epidemiology; Genetic polymorphism; dyslipidaemia; Cholesterol; Triglyceride; Genetic risk; genetic risk score; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Prediction; Gene-environment interactions; Randomized controlled trial; prospective cohort studies; Observational study; GLACIER Study; Diabetes Prevention Program;

    Sammanfattning : Dyslipidemia is a chronic deviation from normal blood lipid levels that can lead to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases; dyslipidemia and its sequelae are caused by the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Although circulating concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have a strong genetic underpinning, not much is known about the genetic factors that affect long-term deteriorations in lipid concentrations. 4. 4. Pilot studies of probiotics in the prevention of type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Martin Ljungberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (TlD) is considered to be an autoimmune disease leading to destruction of the insulin producing beta cells in pancreas. Interaction between genetic factors and environmental factors are believed to trigger the autoimmune response finally causing T1D. A number of environmental factors have been suggested to be associated with TlD. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Challenges of studying complex community health promotion programmes : experiences from Stockholm diabetes prevention programme

    Författare :Camilla Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Community intervention; diabetes prevention; implementation; intersectoral participation; monitoring; planning models; programme theory; the spider-web methodology.;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis focused on how to capture the complexity in the implementation of a community health promotion programme. The thesis is based on experiences of Stockholm diabetes prevention programme (SDPP), which was implemented in 1995-2004 in three municipalities, and include documentation within the programme, annual local governmental reports, local news cuttings, questionnaires and group discussions with the local steering committees members.
