6. Adhesive Joints in Timber Engineering. Modelling and Testing of Fracture Properties
Sammanfattning : This thesis, which is a compilation of seven papers, concerns the mechanical testing, numerical analysis and constitutive modelling of wood-adhesive bonds in timber engineering. Applications such as finger-joints, glued-laminated timber and glued-in rods are considered. LÄS MER
7. Differential geometry and structural action of vaults and shells
Sammanfattning : Masonry vaults and bridges, concrete shells, and steel and timber grid shells are all examples of shell structures. Their beauty, spatial qualities, structural efficiency and manufacturing are closely tied to their geometry. LÄS MER
8. Fatigue evaluation of welded details – using the finite element method
Sammanfattning : The fatigue evaluation of welded details is generally based on the notion of nominal stress, using the classified S-N curves with corresponding fatigue classes for typical details. An approach of this kind should be used with extra caution to ensure that the load effects for components are accurately captured, because an ever-increasing number of welded details are resulting in a limited number of possible treatable design cases. 9. Error analysis of summation-by-parts formulations : Dispersion, transmission and accuracy
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we consider errors arising from finite difference operators on summation-by-parts (SBP) form, used in the discretisation of partial differential equations. The SBP operators are augmented with simultaneous-approximation-terms (SATs) to weakly impose boundary conditions. LÄS MER
10. Design, development and implementation of a mechatronic log traceability system
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns a mechatronic system, designed and developed for the forest industry, to trace logs from forest to sawmill. The research is a key part of a large research project launched by the EU in 2006 called the Indisputable Key project. LÄS MER
