  1. 11. Diabetes in adolescent girls : Endocrine influences on metabolic control with special regard to the GHI/IGF-I Axis

    Författare :Maria Halldin Stenlid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Insulin dependent diabetes; adolescent; growth hormone; insulin-like growth factor-I; insulin-like growth factor binding protein1; insulin sensitivity; pirenzepine; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic control frequently deteriorates during puberty in girls with IDDM, and is often accompanied by excessive weight gain. This impairment has been ascribed the peripubertal psychosocial as well as somatic changes. Puberty is characterised by a unique endocrine milieu. LÄS MER

  2. 12. How social movements influence policies : Advocacy, framing, emotions and outcomes among reproductive rights coalitions in Peru

    Författare :Anna-Britt Coe; Carita Bengs; Susan Franceschet; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Advocacy; emotions; framing; outcomes; Peru; policies; reproductive rights; social movements; Sociology; Sociologi; sociologi; Sociology;

    Sammanfattning : With its origins in the early 1990s, feminist advocacy directed at influencing public policies is a relatively new phenomenon in Latin America that is commonly studied at the national level. The aim of this thesis was to study feminist advocacy on reproductive rights at the sub-national level in Peru. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Direct and endothelium-linked serotonergic control of vascular tone in human uterine and umbilical arteries

    Författare :Caroline Karlsson; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; vascular smooth muscle; uterine artery human ; umbilical artery human ; serotonergic receptor; 5-HT; noradrenaline; endothelium; NPY; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : The serotonergic vascular control was investigated by in vitro pharmacology in the human uterine and umbilical arteries. The localisation of immunoreactive (IR) neuropeptide Y (NPY) and the influence of NPY on the adrenergic vascular effects in the human uterine artery were also studied. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Surgical quality control of minimally invasive procedures, fast-track surgery and implant technology in gynaecological surgery in Sweden

    Författare :Emil Karl Nüssler; Mats Löfgren; Pär Nordin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prolapse; mesh surgery; fast track surgery; laparoskopic hysterectomi; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Internationally as well as in Sweden, efforts for improvement in gynaecological surgery in recent decades have mainly focused on three new treatment concepts:(1) Use of minimally invasive procedures: since there is an interdependency between the extent of surgical trauma and the risk for adverse outcome, increased use of supposedly atraumatic endoscopic procedures has revolutionized several aspects of surgical care(2) A multimodal approach to eliminate harmful procedures in the peri-operative process based on evidence-based principles(3) Introduction of implants to support damaged tissue with synthetic mesh in incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse patients.Research question 1: Is introduction of a minimally invasive operation enough per se or is the measured improvement mediated by elimination of harmful procedures in the perioperative process?Findings: Our study (Paper I) indicates that by applying a multimodal intervention programme for the pre- and postoperative care of patients undergoing supravaginal hysterectomy, the surgical procedure per se is of less importance than generally considered. 5. 15. The role of insulin signaling during development, reproductive diapause and aging in Drosophila Melanogaster

    Författare :Sifang Liao; Dick Nässel; Heinrich Dircksen; Mark Brown; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; insulin-like peptides; reproductive diapause; behavioral senescence; neuromodulator; lifespan; funktionell zoomorfologi; Functional Zoomorphology;

    Sammanfattning : The insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling pathway exists from invertebrates to vertebrates and it can regulate various biological processes, including development, metabolism, stress resistance and lifespan. In Drosophila, eight insulin-like peptides (DILP1-8) have been found. LÄS MER
