  1. 1. Polyunsaturated fatty acids and allergy development

    Författare :Sara Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; DTH; IgE; fish oil; farming; atopy; butter; allergy; saturated fat; fatty acids; polyunsaturated fatty acids; breast milk; margarine; serum; cord blood;

    Sammanfattning : Allergies have increased strikingly in the affluent parts of the world during the last century. The cause of the rapid increase is unknown but several risk factors have been postulated, the main ones relating to reduced microbial exposures and changed diet. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Dietary fat quality influences the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A low-grade inflammation is suggested to contribute to the disease development, often accompanied by obesity. Whereas n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been considered anti-inflammatory, n-6 PUFA have been proposed to act pro-inflammatory. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fatty Acid Composition in Skeletal Muscle : Influence of Physical Activity and Dietary Fat Quality

    Författare :Agneta Andersson; Len Storlien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Skeletal muscle; phospholipids; triglycerides; fatty acids; physical activity; lipid peroxidation; dietary fat quality; n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin sensitivity is related to the fatty acid profile of skeletal muscle. The aim of this thesis was to investigate whether physical activity and dietary fat quality, independent of each other, influence the fatty acid composition of the skeletal muscle lipids. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Expression of Manganese Lipoxygenase and Site-Directed Mutagenesis of Catalytically Important Amino Acids : Studies on Fatty Acid Dioxygenases

    Författare :Mirela Cristea; Ernst H. Oliw; Chao Su; Olof Rådmark; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Polyunsaturated fatty acids can be bioactivated by two families of dioxygenases, which either contain non-heme iron (lipoxygenases) or heme (cyclooxygenases, linoleate diol synthases and α-dioxygenases).Lipoxygenases and their products play important roles in the pathophysiology of plants and fungi. Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUPA) in relation to the appem11nce of anergic diseases in children and mothers in late pregnancy and during the lactation period and to the development of atopy in children, as well as the influence of maternal PUF A on their babies.The levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6n-3) and total n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCP) were lower (p = 0.
