    Sammanfattning : Dyslipidemia mainly results from oversecretion of apoB-containing lipoproteins from theliver and is one of the most important risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis.Growth hormone (GH) plays a key role in the regulation of lipoprotein metabolism and thus,disturbances in GH secretion are associated with dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.     Sammanfattning : An increased risk for coronary heart disease among shift workers is earlier shown in the epidemiological literature. The aim of this thesis has been to penetrate metabolic disturbances and obesity among shift workers compared to day workers, and to compare if there are differences in total mortality or cause specific mortality of coronary heart disease (CHD), diabetes or ischaemic stroke in between the two groups.     Sammanfattning : The storage of triglycerides in cells such as adipocytes, liver or muscle cells is of great physiological importance, having implications for our most important metabolic diseases such as obesity, the metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes. A common denominator in these diseases is the insulin resistance, which is also highly related to the production of atherogenic lipoproteins and the development of atherosclerosis and consequently cardio-vascular diseases.
