11. Regulation of Insulin Secretion in Relation to Nitric Oxide, Carbon Monoxide and Acid alpha-Glucoside Hydrolase Activities
Sammanfattning : The main stimulus for insulin secretion is elevated blood glucose levels. In this thesis the aim was to study less well-known systems involved in the complex regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin release, emphasizing the role of the lysosomal/vacuolar system and the associated glycogenolytic acid alpha-glucoside hydrolases, but also the HO-CO and NOS-NO systems. 12. Nitric oxide synthase in female reproductive and urinary organs: Hormonal regulation and functional significance
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. LÄS MER
13. Bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis. Studies on classic BPS/IC, ESSIC type 3C, with special reference to the role of nitric oxide
Sammanfattning : Patients presenting with symptoms of Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS) are challenging to the urologist. Previously known as Interstitial Cystitis (IC), this syndrome has been extensively debated and investigated. IC mainly affects women, only 1 or 2 out of 10 patients are males. LÄS MER
14. Nitric oxide in brain contusion
Sammanfattning : Trauma to the brain is a leading cause of death and disability. The primary injury initiates a cascade of biochemical reactions in the brain that causes further neuronal damage, a process referred to as secondary brain injury. LÄS MER
15. Helicobacter pylori interference with the L-arginine/NO pathway in the upper gut
Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori causes chronic gastritis and sometimes peptic ulcers but the pathogenesis is not fully understood. H. pylori-infected individuals with duodenal ulcer have an impaired duodenal mucosal bicarbonate secretion (DMBS) in response to acid. NO is an important signalling molecule in the body. LÄS MER
