  1. 1. Bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis. Studies on classic BPS/IC, ESSIC type 3C, with special reference to the role of nitric oxide

    Författare :Yr Logadottir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bladder Pain Syndrome BPS ; Interstitial Cystitis IC ; Nitric Oxide NO ; Nitric Oxide Synthase NOS ; Inflammatory mediators; Interleukin-17; Mast cells;

    Sammanfattning : Patients presenting with symptoms of Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS) are challenging to the urologist. Previously known as Interstitial Cystitis (IC), this syndrome has been extensively debated and investigated. IC mainly affects women, only 1 or 2 out of 10 patients are males. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation alters the functional properties of the urinary bladder. Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a chronic inflammatory syndrome in man that is characterized by urgency, frequency and visceral pain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the role of nitric oxide in lower urinary tract disease

    Författare :Lotta Renström Koskela; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important biological molecule with a variety of functions. Among other, it is a signalling molecule capable of inducing smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilatation, it regulates proliferation, can induce apoptosis and act as an effector molecule in host defence reactions and in immune regulatory processes. 4. 4. Nitric oxide : a marker for inflammation in the lower urinary tract

    Författare :Abolfazl Hosseini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this work is to investigate the role of Nitric oxide (NO) as a diagnostic marker for inflammation in the lower urinary tract. NO exerts multiple modulating effects on inflammation and plays a key role in the regulation of immune responses. NO is formed enzymatically in vivo from Larginine by several NO synthases (NOS).
