  1. 21. Fatty Acid Self-Assembly at the Air–Water Interface : Curvature, Patterning, and Biomimetics: A Study by Neutron Reflectometry and Atomic Force Microscopy

    Författare :Erik Bergendal; Mark W. Rutland; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; branched fatty acids; Langmuir films; Langmuir–Blodgett; nanopatterning; AFM; neutron reflectometry; grenade fettsyror; Langmuir monoskikt; Langmuir–Blodgett; självassociering; nanostrukturerade material; AFM; neutronspridning; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : For more than a hundred years of interfacial science, long chain fatty acids have been the primary system for the study of floating monolayers at the air–water interface due to their amphiphilic nature and system simplicity: an insoluble hydrocarbon chain and a soluble carboxyl group at a flat air–water interface. Despite―or perhaps rather due to―the assumed simplicity of such systems and the maturity of the research field, the seemingly fundamentally rooted notion of a two-dimensional water surface has yet to be challenged. 2. 22. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in Bile Acid Biosynthesis and Fatty Acid Metabolism : Studies on Members of the Porcine CYP4A and CYP8B Subfamilies

    Författare :Kerstin Lundell; Kjell Wikvall; Ronnie Hansson; Stefan Alexson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; cytochrome P450; bile acids; fatty acids; CYP4A; CYP8B; genome; porcine; hyocholic acid; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The present investigation is devoted to studies on porcine members of the cytochrome P450 4A (CYP4A) and CYP8B1 subfamilies, which are involved in bile acid biosynthesis and fatty acid metabolism. Hyocholic acid is considered to fulfil the requirements for trihydroxy bile acids in the domestic pig (Sus scrofa) in the absence of cholic acid. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Dietary Intake, Fatty Acid Biomarkers, and Abdominal Obesity : Population-Based Observational Studies

    Författare :Zayed Alsharari; Ulf Risérus; Matti Marklund; Per Sjögren; Tommy Cederholm; Emily Sonestedt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :abdominal obesity; fatty acid biomarker; dietary intake; Kostvetenskap; Food; Nutrition and Dietetics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the associations between fatty acid (FA) biomarkers, carbohydrate intake, and abdominal obesity (AO) and related anthropometric measures in a population-based cohort of men and women in Stockholm County. The overall hypothesis was that dietary fat quality assessed by serum and adipose tissue FA composition, and dietary intake of especially carbohydrates is associated with AO. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Polyunsaturated fatty acids in relation to childhood and maternal allergic diseases

    Författare :Guo Yu; Birgitta Strandvik; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :fatty acids; allergic diseases; atopic diseases; children; mothers; cord blood; serum; colostrum; human milk; IgE; skin prick test; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUPA) in relation to the appem11nce of anergic diseases in children and mothers in late pregnancy and during the lactation period and to the development of atopy in children, as well as the influence of maternal PUF A on their babies.The levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6n-3) and total n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCP) were lower (p = 0. 5. 25. Effects of Free Fatty Acids on Insulin and Glucagon Secretion : – with special emphasis on the role of Free fatty acid receptor 1

    Författare :Hjalti Kristinsson; Peter Professor; Birgitte Holst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FFAR1; GPR40; palmitate; lipotoxicity; islets of Langerhans; type 2 diabetes; obesity; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is still rising and even so in the juvenile population. Obesity is highly associated with increased risk for developing T2DM. LÄS MER
