6. Regulation of neurotrophic signaling molecules in motor neurons, primary sensory neurons and target tissues in senescence
Sammanfattning : A hallmark of senescence is sensorimotor impairment, characterized by gait disturbance, deficits in postural control, and muscle weakness. The object of this thesis work was to elucidate some of the molecular basis underlying these disturbances, mainly referring to the occurrence of characteristic changes in gene-expression pattern, especially, alterations in trophic signaling associated with the phenotypic changes seen in motoneurons as well as primary sensory neurons and target muscles during aging. 7. Fibroblast growth factor-induced signal transduction
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) evoke cellular responses by binding to FGF receptors (FGFRs). FGFRs are cell surface expressed membrane-spanning receptors with intrinsic stimulatable tyrosine kinase activity. This thesis describes the cell proliferation or differentiation. LÄS MER
8. The Roles of Growth Factor Interactions and Mechanical Tension in Angiogenesis
Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from preexisting ones through creation of new vessel branch points by sprouting or vessel splitting, is an important part of tissue growth in both physiological processes like wound healing and pathological conditions such as cancer. Growth factors like VEGF-A, FGF-2 and PDGF-BB are involved in both types of angiogenesis. LÄS MER
9. Regulation of Angiogenesis
Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones. New blood vessel formation is fundamental in processes such as reproduction, embryonic development and wound healing. Growth of neoplasms is accompanied by increased angiogenesis. This thesis describes cellular and molecular mechanisms of importance for angiogenesis. LÄS MER
10. N-Unsubstituted Glucosamine Residues in Heparan Sulfate and Their Potential Relation to Alzheimer's Disease
Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a linear polysaccharide, located on the surface and in the extracellular matrix of most cells, that regulates functions of numerous proteins. HS-protein interaction is mainly mediated by sulfate groups found in N-sulfated (NS) regions of the HS, but may also involve rare HS substituents such as N-unsubstituted glucosamine (GlcNH2) residues.
