  1. 1. Neurothrophins in the development of the gustatory system and teeth

    Författare :Christopher A Nosrat; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Gustation; gustatory; taste buds; neurotrophins; NGF; BDNF; NT-3; NT-4; GDNF; GFRalpha-l; GFRalpha-2; knockout; innervation; development; tooth; tooth development; odontogene sis. Christopher A. Nosrat; 1997;

    Sammanfattning : Flavors of taste are detected by a set of microscopical cellular aggregates called the taste buds, present in different arrangements on the upper surface of the tongue and other areas in the mouth. Taste buds are chemosensors that can detect different taste qualities such as sweet, sour, bitter, salt and umami. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Trophic factors, neuroprotection and spinal cord repair

    Författare :Johan Widenfalk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :spinal cord injury; GDNF; GFRalpha; neurotrophin; VEGF; olfactory ensheathing glia; weight-drop injury; in situ hybridization;

    Sammanfattning : Background: There is no cure for paralysis. The only drug therapy presently in use, acute high-dose methylprednisolone, has only modest effects on outcome. There is therefore a great need for new therapies. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Regulation of neurotrophic signaling molecules in motor neurons, primary sensory neurons and target tissues in senescence

    Författare :Yu Ming; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Aging; dorsal root ganglion; spinal cord; muscle; neurotrophins; GFRalpha; Ret; FGF-2; gp 130; CNTF; LIF; IL-6; receptors; protein; mRNA; glia; axon dystrophy; demyelination.;

    Sammanfattning : A hallmark of senescence is sensorimotor impairment, characterized by gait disturbance, deficits in postural control, and muscle weakness. The object of this thesis work was to elucidate some of the molecular basis underlying these disturbances, mainly referring to the occurrence of characteristic changes in gene-expression pattern, especially, alterations in trophic signaling associated with the phenotypic changes seen in motoneurons as well as primary sensory neurons and target muscles during aging. 4. 4. Functional and bioinformatical studies of the TGFb superfamily : identification and characterization of ALK7

    Författare :Henrik Jörnvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) superfamily of polypeptide growth factors encompasses more than 30 diverse mammalian members. They are involved in most cellular processes, ranging from cell proliferation and differentiation, to survival and death. Loss of TGFbeta activity is coupled to tumor development and many other disorders. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structure-function studies of GDNF and other members of the TGF-beta superfamily

    Författare :Susanna Eketjäll; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family is a distant subclass of the TGF-beta superfamily. The GDNF family of ligands, consisting of GDNF, neurturin (NTN), artemin (ART) and persephin (PSP), are potent survival and differentiation factors for neurons in the central and peripheral nervous systems.
