1. Tissue transglutaminase autoantibodies in childhood celiac disease
Sammanfattning : Celiac disease is a prevalent small bowel disease in children caused by permanent intolerance against gliadin, which is the alcohol-soluble fraction of the cereal protein gluten in wheat, rye and barley. Celiac disease is characterized by an inflammatory infiltrate of CD4+ T lymphocytes in the intestinal mucosa leading to damage of villous structure and loss of absorptive surface. LÄS MER
2. Early life dietary factors on the risk of celiac disease. Associations of dietary factors with risk of celiac disease in children at genetic risk

3. Clinical Aspects of Screening Detected Celiac Disease among 12-year-olds
Sammanfattning : Abstract Sweden experienced an epidemic (1984-96) of celiac disease in children, partly attributed to changes in infant feed- ing. Our aim was to compare the total prevalence of celiac disease in two birth cohorts of 12-year-olds and relate the findings to each cohort’s ascertained infant feeding. LÄS MER
4. Triggers of autoimmunity. Studies on gestational events
Sammanfattning : Objective The primary aim of this thesis was to test whether gestational exposure to environmental factors may induce islet autoimmunity. The second aim was to determine to what extent the exposure to viruses or other environmental factors is a risk factor for type 1 diabetes in the offspring. LÄS MER
5. Aspects of infant food factors on intestinal inflammation and effects of probiotics in celiac disease autoimmunity
Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aim of this thesis was to study dietary components with focus on exposure and ability to affect gutpermeability, peripheral immune response and gut microbiota in children at genetic risk of developing CD. Thespecific aims were to study presence of food components that might induce intestinal inflammation, evaluatepossible effects on intestinal permeability by food emulsifiers, investigate if two different strains of Lactobacillaceaeaffect ongoing CD autoimmunity and gut microbiota composition.
